Old question here, I posted several weeks ago about the transmission in my 5B, went out this am to try to engage

it,  put in first , it moves about a foot, put it in reverse, samething.  Question, with the clutch down and when I

pull it into 2nd it's real easy in 3rd pull down their is more resistance. Did it break or what?

No transmission will "break" just sitting or not in use. How was it operating the last time it was driven?? Why have you not attempted to drive it any length??(more than a foot?)
A trans is a tough bird and will take a lot of punishment, if it will not pull itself its more likely the clutch, altho you should have had some indication of a problem the last time driven.>>>Dan

If it moves a foot, it's probably OK.  Have you tried to find out why it only moves a foot?  When it stops, what is the feeling you get - hit a wall, engine stalls, clutch slips, etc?  Have you taken off the rear hatch and looked at the shift linkage connections to see if they are binding or if the reverse solenoid is sticking?  It's possible that the drop box or the differential is having an issue, you could jack one side of the rear axle off the ground and see if the engine can spin the free axle.

You could drain the transmission oil and take the inspection plate off the side (passenger side) and look inside for spare parts.

Edit:  It's winter time, my truck froze to the ground once and I couldn't move it.

The last time I had it out was when I went to Sturgis in August and back home here in Indianapolis ( Mooresville)

never had any issues until several weeks ago as stated that it only moved forward and back and now nothing.

Question, the adjustment knob looks like the top is up higher than I seen before. could that be the problem ?

After seeing this I thought it might have lost its adjustment. ?????????

It's been a while, but as I remember it on the Spicer we had on the 5a, you pull the adjustment nob up, turn it to adjust the clutch and then push it back down to lock it.  Is it possible that the nob was left up and has wandered way out of adjustment?
You don't have to believe everything you think.

Steve the clutch on my 5A has a air aciest and it is possible that it is not letting the clutch pedal come all the way to the top. Have you tried putting the bus in first gear, engine running, and using your toe to pull the clutch pedal all the way out ?

Agrauto,

My clutch releases all the way to the top, after that , "nothing"!

can you look at the linkage inside the driver's side rear door to see if it is moving when someone else pumps on the pedal?  do you have normal pedal pressure? If you let the clutch out with the transmission in gear does the engine load up like the clutch is engaging?
