Yea there was a DDEC 8V71 I and II  same with a inline 6 and the 12v71  they are hard to find but they are out there in the marine world 500 hp smooth as silk running @ 2800 rpm ,I have a friend that has a set of 8v71TA DDEC's in his boat

Thanks, I was curious because I thought that by 1990 pollution controls had made the MUI mechanical governor obsolete for new builds, but the list of available engines for the MCI's shows 8V-71 as an option.  Maybe only the earlier models had them.

Hi Clifford, so an electronic controlled turboed 8V71? Is it the same size as a turboed non electronic 8V71, or a different physical configuration? Is mileage better with the electronic metering? Thanks, lvmci...
