Blower gear box leaking

The output shafts on my fan blower gearbox are leaking seriously. I would like to replace the seals, but I cannot figure out how to get it out of the blower compartment. I have an mci mc9 with 6v92t. The manual is no help. It looks like I have to remove the fan housings, fans and blower gearbox as a single unit! Is that correct? I would really appreciate some help.

Clifford's right it is a pain in the A&&. I used an engine lift to take mine out you need to roll the fan housings out and everything has to be loosened up (fan seals).

Tied for the hardest job I've ever done on my bus with that stinking air tank just in front ofd the differential. First of all if you have any doubt about your radiators this would be the time to update to the big radiators if you don't have them or at least have yours checked to see if they need to any work on them because this whole system works together and you won't have access like this any other time. Also ALL the seals will probably need to be replaced as well. The squirrel fan seals (also known as the scroll seals) both inner and outer,  the access door seals as well, and all the seals around the radiator. Getting the assembly out is only surpassed in difficulty by getting it all back in. You have to pull the fans off the main shaft. use lots of power blaster, a torch and prepare to cuss... ALOT. Then the speedy sleeves. Here's the advice that I didn't get until I had already shortened the lifespan of my speedy sleeves considerably ( I forced them on, bad idea) Throw the sleeves in the oven at 200 degrees for a half hour before you install them. I'm imagining that would make that job much much easier in my opinion. Gumpy has a complete how to instruction guide with pics that will be really helpful as well.

Good luck and keep asking questions

I didn't have to pull fans to get the assembly out. I just had to loosen everything up and with help that knew what he was doing we rolled them out in one assembly.

Someone was really on drugs when they designed that dual radiator setup with squirrel cage blower sucking the air through. As you'll notice-NO bus is made with that setup anymore. MCI still uses the high radiator but uses two-one for the intercooler and the other for the radiator with normal fans.  Good Luck, TomC

Sorry John you're right I should;ve been more specific. After you get the assembly out (and it's the entire assembly with the scroll fan covers which is the design flaw in my opinion, if they would have made those in two pieces it would be a piece of cake) that's when you need to take the fans off the shaft on both sides.Getting the scroll cage guards or enclosures back in the bus for reassembly is one of the most difficult things I've ever done. You're holding this heavy assembly and both scroll fan covers have to be perfectly in place for the whole thing to go back in. It sucks. Period.

You'll want to make sure you have the smaller diameter fan pulley as well. You can find the smaller one through Luke or C and J coach here in Mpls.If you change it out you'll need different belts to run it

Had one on another brand once that mud dobbers built a nest in vent. === pressure caused lube past seals.  cleaned vent and stopped leak.  FWIW.
