Halogen to LED

I have 8 Halogen puck lights overhead. When I first bought them they had 20 watt Halogen bulbs. Then changed them to 10 watt Xenon. Now changed them to LED. While the 20 watt are brighter, the LED is about the same as the 10 watt. With all 8 on, I went from 160 to 80 to 12 watts. Pretty dramatic drop. Plus you won't burn yourself if you touch the LED compared to the Halogen. Good Luck, TomC

I to changed all mine to LED (35 in total ) and have never looked back          dave

So are you just buying Halogen fixtures and then changing the bulb out to Led ? I want to keep my power consumption down low so I would like to know. Are there good led fixtures out there now ?

Steve: Got these for my lighting at this year's RV show. Each lamp draws 2 watts, has a light color around 3500K, cost me $18 ea, are light weight, have a switch. I bought 14 dual units, total of 56 watts. They work on 12-24 volts. Replacement lamps 56 cents on ebay. No mfg name, but saw them in many of this years RV's. Gerry H

I have a number of puck lights in my bus that had halogen bulbs in them.  They got very hot and one of my friends melted something against one of them.  I found some LED replacement bulbs that have 28 LEDs on them.  They don't run as cool as I thought they would.  The good thing is they don't get as hot as the halogen bulbs, but they might still melt some things.

Go to http://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/boat-rv/ (I've used them, don't have anything to do with their company). There are replacement LED bulbs for most all fixtures. While the LED's are still a bit dimmer then Halogen, they are bright enough-especially when camping in a dark spot. My next fixture to change out is my bathroom mirror light that uses 3 12v bulbs and gets hot. I think the "tower" LED bulb will work just fine there. Good Luck, TomC

Another source is http://www.sailorsams.com/ They have a lot of 10-30 volt LED bulbs so they work on 12 or 24 volt systems.
