There was no fuel or coolant or other cross contamination, so that's all good.  They said that iron was high at 85,and silicone was high at 27 though.  What does that mean?

High silicone could be from gaskets, rtv, oil filter or other things most of the time it is from dirt on dusty roads oil bath filters are bad about that if you have 1,on the high iron cut the old oil filter and check for metal pieces

High iron that is the one I would worry about, high silicone not so much too many things can cause that

good luck

High iron can show up sometimes if you pull the sample right after you drop the plug.  One sample is just a snap shot, a few samples will show a trend.  Without knowing how many miles was on the oil you can't draw a specific conclusion from either one being high.

I wouldn't get to knotted up over either one until you ran and resampled.

Plenty of iron on the back of the 8v71 to cause high iron Lin like I said cut the top of the filter if you have flakes you can see then worry.

I always cut my filters open you never know what you may find.

I will cut the filter.  I have a good magnet on the bottom of the filter, so there will probably be at least some particals there.  My oil sample may be a little dubious, since I did not draw it during an oil change.  I just ran the engine a bit,  loosened the plug, and collected it from what flow I could get.

By the time factor, I am very due for an oil change, but by mileage, I was not.  I was very curious to see if the analysis would say to do one.  It does.  At some point I had put some Lucas oil treatment in it.  I wonder if that has silicone in it.

I don't want to open a can of worm and don't intend to in reference to Lucas.
If you are curious about Lucas send a sample in and you'll see what it has and does not have in it.  If you need help tranfering the Vicsocity to a " weight " of an oil just let me know and I'll scan & email the cross reference chart.

If you wish to dig a bit you can visit bobistheoilguy .com and look at an oil analysis of Lucas, it will probably answer your question.

10 gallons of oil puts your additive pack at a certain level, 80% of your oil and 20% oil additive will alter your additive package depending on the 20% you subsituted in place of your motor oil.
