Some of you recall my thread last year concerning major water in my hubs (coffee colored...but that was debatable too lol) After removing them, drying out the bearings and replacing with oil, the hubs leaked all the oil out the bottom of the cover. The old gasket was shot. So I'm just now getting around to replacing them. I went to my local NAPA and the guy didn't have them in stock. Another store in NC had them and he said he could have them shipped to his store here in Orlando but it would cost somewhere just under $20 for shipping. $35 for each hub cover/gasket/rubber plug assembly times two cause I need two...plus almost $20 for shipping seems really steep to me. I'll be out $90 plus tax. Is this accurate? I read some other threads where some of you mention that the kit should only be $15 or so. And why is he charging me shipping to bring a needed item to his store? No one else does that...seems like bad customer service. Didn't want to order them until I got your opinions...

Have you tried Orlando Truck Parts or Joe's Truck Parts in Orlando?  I suspect they would be a better source than NAPA.

Locally, NAPA has always charged for shipping if they have to bring an item in from out of town.  They don't charge shipping or delivery if a local store or the local warehouse has it, but if it has to come from an out of state warehouse they will charge shipping.  I could see charging to get something from another store out of state.  It isn't like the local warehouse where they probably get daily or multiple daily deliveries.

Go on the hunt for the local heavy truck vendors, your NAPA doesn't appear to be interested in the heavy market.

Stuff like that should be readily available through the usual supply chain of the vendors you use, if it isn't right there on the shelf in stock.

Some NAPA's only serve the light duty automotive market.

happy coaching!

Thanks Brian and BW. Making some phone calls right now. Talking to Joe's at the moment. I have ordered so many automotive parts over the years and never once has a vendor charged me for shipping to their store...they are hub covers...we're not talking a motor block...guess I'm spoiled. Spent the last two weeks getting the coach ready for our trip to Wisconsin from here in Florida. That's almost the last thing on the list.

She's fueled up and topped off...
New filters
Rebuilt throttle assembly and unseized engine stop lever system
Removed a/c compressor
Drained air tanks
Drained airbox slobber

Ok, typed while I was on the phone...Joe's told me it was a special order...he couldn't get them....so on to Orlando Truck Parts now...

Also try Freightliner, Volvo, Mack, International, and other heavy truck dealers.  Some of the parts guys will only type a VIN in and refuse to help if it isn't their brand.  Others will be more helpful.

I believe MCI has a service center in Orlando that might have the parts.

Do you have a Fleetpride local to you?  They can usually get what you need, and I've never been charged extra for a special order.

Buying stuff from Flebay is great, just make sure the part #'s are correct.

Buses use a different hub cover than the typical truck. That said usually there will be some truck parts place that will have them in stock or can get in a day or two on their regular delivery.

And yes NAPA and our local truck parts places do charge shipping if they have to pay it to have something shipped other than their normal free delivery truck!

Also Scott if your in Orlando just go down to MCI or ABC and pick up what ya need they will both have 'm in stock!
