Has anybody built their own shower stall?

Dear Friends,

I was not able to find any kind of a ready-made shower stall down here in Mexico. Our houses are mostly brick and cement. Our showers are usually tiled.

My welder friend finished building our stainless steel shower pan. I am looking for some ideas for the walls of the shower.

P.S. In case anybody is curious, the chicken wire is to hold in place fiberglass insulation under the flooring.

My shower is similar. I used a commercial single bowl sink, then I made a circular shower curtain rod that is suspended from the ceiling with a shower curtain all the way around kind of like the old shower curtains used with the old claw foot tubs. I hope this makes since.

What you have done so far looks fantastic. why not run with stainless all the way around? The guy who did my bus just ran plastic laminate down the sides but the guy put it behind the stainless floor pan. so now the shower leaks and causes untold mold and mess. I only have about a 1" lip of stainless not the 6" of glorious lip that you have.

Plastic laminate = cheap, easy to clean, easy to install, lots of funky colors.
shower surround = cheap, easy, cheap,
Corian = super sexy and expensive
Stainless = still sexy, a bit cold/prison style, and expensive.

First bus, 1970 GM 4108, was a tile shower using 2" tiles on the walls and ceiling. 1" tiles on the floor. Used cement board as an underlayment, 3/8".  The wall and roof curvature made a fiberglass shower almost impossible to fit properly.  The shower stall is still in excellent shape. No cracking after 14 years since install according to the current owner.

My shower has a rv tub bottom, so it's relatively good sized.  The walls are plywood with 2x4 ribs, all 1" tile.  The top half is bowed out to give you a soap shelf and some shoulder room.  It also follows the curve of the roof on top (taller towards the center of the bus than on the edge).  It has been in continuous service since 1989, with the only leak around the shower fixture in 1993, when he replaced it with a moen one, and no problems since.
