My son's next Scenicruiser adventure

I wont be posting any new bus conversion videos for at least a month, maybe two. My son will have the video camera with him recording his next Scenicruiser adventure. If any of you reading remember the first, it created a little of a stir here, especially with those members across the pond as they like to say. I wasn't to concerned the first time, he was only going from Arkansas to Alabama, but this time he and Rob will be driving two Scenicruiser's from Alabama to Vermont. In the last video my son's bus ended up getting towed because the clutch was slipping so badly. Apparently a new clutch was installed in California and the bus driven to Arkansas and the clutch was never adjusted. Rob did some adjusting and drove the bus around his town a few times and everything seemed OK, but will it make it to Vermont? Rob's bus has been getting new air tanks and a leak fixed in the fuel tank, I think they plan on new rubber for both buses. I will not have a good nights sleep until I hear those buses are in Vermont. If driving two Scenicruiser's from Alabama to Vermont, that had not been on the road for who knows how many years were not bad enough, Rob has been relocated back to Vermont, so this will also be a moving home trip as well and that means towing two cars behind those buses. I am starting to understand how youthful exuberance can give middle aged men grey hair.

Seems like when any video is posted concerning moving an old bus, the critics come out of the woodwork.
While I've taken a few of those trips myself, I wouldn't necessarily advise anyone else to copy my efforts.
I enjoyed seeing the youthful enthusiasm & diligence in moving the ole girls. If a problem arises, I'm confident they will be able to work thru it.

I wish them well in their trip!

If no videos, how about some pictures?

cool, when they heading north? I am in NY so tell them NOT to cross the George Washington Bridge to hit 95. go around north weather permiting. Safe trip guys.

Mike, I have every reason to think They will be just fine. I must admit I am jealous as at 70 I do not get to have such a great adventure anymore. Aside from the negatives from some I was quite impressed with the first trip! Good luck to Them and get the aged of us some video candy. Regards John L

I bet you those two old Scenicruisers will be the most talked about buses out on the road.
When they make a fuel stop every one will want to look at the old girls and say I remember when.
When the Scenicruisers were in Greyhound service they were the 747's of the highways and interstates.

If your heading to Vt this time of year, make sure the busses are winterized. It's been known to get cold in them hills around now. Also, make sure you have winter blended fuel. One winter, we had a church group come up from South Carolina and while they were singing at the mountaintop church, the fuel gelled up. Took our biggest wrecker and a cat dozer to haul off it the mountain and took 2 days in D.O.T. heated garage to thaw the beast out.

I will let them know, but why is this not a good bridge? I don't know exactly when they will be heading north.

Good point, that could be easily overlooked, but it is going to stay sunny and in the 50's until well after Christmas LOL.

The GW bridge is way to expensive and full of holes that will swallow a mini bus!
(back in 2000 it cost $20 for a tractor trailer to cross it and I'm sure it's gone up since then! & I once saw a Ford escort that ran into a hole in the bridge both front tires were down in the hole and the car skidded across until the front bumper hit the other side of the hole and you could see the traffic and lanes below around the sides of the car through the hole!)

Uh tell 'm to put some Howe's or Power Service fuel treatment in before getting to far NORTH! (the weather man is the only person I know of that can be consistently wrong and keep his job and still get paid good$.

(or e-mail me direct and provide their addresses) I am planning an antique bus gathering in Blytheville, Arkansas April 4-6, 2013, (at the restored Greyhound depot)and would like to send them the info. By the way.....this trip is nothing for two old Scenics. Just like a trip across town to the grocery store! But I could be a little bias too!

Keep us posted on when they are driving up to VT. I'm in CT and can lend a hand if needed. My sister lives in VT and Im up there visiting often, more often than not in our 4106.

Tom, I will let them know, they do not have an internet connection where Rob lives, so any internet communication will have to wait. I know Rob doe's gets some limited personal internet time at work, but that's about it until they get home.

The Cross Bronx Expressway is another reason to steer clear of the GW Bridge. As much as I would love to see them passing through New Rochelle on I-95, they would probably be better off skipping NYC altogther.

One other thought. tell them beware of black ice on I91 and I89. this time of year is can jump up on you. I took a wild ride towing a car one fine Nov. day some years back. don't think I'd want to try it with a 40' bus.
