Throttle linkage question on a 4104?

   I have a friend who recently purchased a 4104 (1960) 198,000 original miles. It seems the throttle takes several

   seconds before it's up to RPM. What would cause this? kink , bad cable, needs grease? RJ maybe you could

   explain.

Disconnect the linkage at the governor. Rev it up by hand at the fuel lever on the governor. If it is still slow, time for a tune up by the book.

Agree w/ JC as to what to try first.

I'd add after trying JC's method, that you have somebody assist checking the throttle linkage/cable before hooking it back up.

If it binds or is hard to move, probably time to clean out the housing.  Search the archives for various methods to this madness.

Not unusual on GMs to find the outer housing cracked/split/broken in the rear axle area.  Yanqui imagineering is often utilized for this repair.

Brian just talked about installing a new cable in another thread, worth the read.

The inline six may need to have a tune-up by the book, AKA "running the rack" to reset all the injectors properly.

Get me the VIN on the coach, I want to know who only put 198,000 miles on a 1960 4104.

  RJ, I thought you would tune in to this post, thank you. Larry a friend of mine bought it several weeks ago.

  From what was mentioned, it was never a line coach. It was a chase coach (in case one would ever break

down?) at this time is still has all of the original AC.  Also, would the original air filters (oil bath) be clogged

and not getting enough air?

Checking the air filter, cleaning it, is easy enough. If it was clogged, you would get black smoke out the exhaust.

  Update on the problem with the throttle linkage, it is opening only about half way. Maybe it needs replaced

  or can it be lubricated.  Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem?

Fast Fred did a nice little write-up about lubricating the throttle cable on his 4106, which is very similar to the 4104.  He posted it over at BusNut Online (www.busnut.com)  Made a world of difference.

our 4104 did the same thing. The throttle pedal was a little hard to push down and it accelerated real slow. between the engine and the bulkhead the throttle cable tube makes 2 - 90 degree bends.Ours was full of dirt and grime,took it apart,cleaned,lubed,works great now.Access was through the access panel inside where the back seat was . hope this helps  Raymond 4104-3632
