Hi all, I just joined, looking to convert, buy one that is converted.

I have in the past looked at school buses to convert as they are pretty much straight truck chassis and would be easy to get fixed at a truck stop should the need arise on the road, and access to the mechanicals would be easier than on an MCI or Eagle (drove for greyhound, have some experience with them)

really depends on use and long term intentions. If your going to travel over the road I don't think you will get the ride you would wish for from a stiff frame/suspension.  A air bag or torlogistic suspension will give you a better ride. Personal taste is the rule all decision maker here!    Bob

Welcome Kubla!

As Robert stated, much better ride with coach chassis over skool bus.

School busses are not usually geared for highway use. They tend to top out at 55 mph.

Oh, and they bounce high in the rear with no load.. Lol

Have fun here!

If you intend to utilize campgrounds there some that won't allow schoolies to stay there.

My friend originally wanted to get an old junker school bus to convert.  He intended to just leave it at a junkyard if it died on the road.  I questioned why put a lot of work into converting a vehicle that had a good chance of dying on the road?  What would happen to all the conversion parts if the vehicle was junked?  How would we get home if we were hundreds of miles from home?  I ended buying my coach bus myself and my friends helped me with some of the conversion.
