8V-71 turbo

Any one know if it is worth adding an intercooler to an 8V-71 turbo? Looks like I might be doing a swap in a 1985 Prevost and was wondering if I should add one.

I am in the process as we speak having my 8V-71N turboed by Don Fairchild in Bakersfield.  I had a custom air to air intercooler made that would flow 1400cfm with 4" pipes.  If your engine is a TA then the air is cooled down to around 250 degrees by the aftercooler under the blower.  If you don't have the aftercooler, then the 350 degrees or so of turbo air is going directly into the engine.  As compared to an air to air intercooler that will drop the air to around 150 degrees on a 70 degree day.  Cooler the air, the more dense it is, making for better combustion-hence better horsepower and fuel mileage.  Good Luck, TomC

I will have to look and see if it is after cooled. If it is, does this have to be removed if an air to air cooler is installed?

Jaybe, the current thought is to remove the aftercoler and install an air to air intercooler. The intercooler needs to be 4" in and out. I have some research that I can share if you click on my profile an email me. HTH- Chuck
