I called my local oil distributor in search of 40WT oil and they recommended Castrol Assuron 40WT specifically for a DD. It is API CF-2 and has an ash content of .80. Would this be OK to use or should I stick to the Shell Rotella or Delo 100? It is $12.70/gallon. Just wanted to get some feedback before I purchase any.

Thanks !!!

We'll I did the oil change and we took the bus on a short 200 mile trip. We used to leak oil no matter what (I figured typical Detroit). We arrived at our weekend destination point and set up camp. After a couple of hour I checked under the bus to see if the oil helped the leaks,,,and there were none. WOW!! The PO most have used 15-40wt. Thank you bus gurus for the threads that said to stick to straight 40wt! What a difference!

I would recommend anyone that buys a used bus to change the oil right away.  You never know how many miles or month/years is on the oil.  For a 2 stroke you have no idea if the right weight oil was used.  I had the oil in my bus changed before I drove it 1,400 miles home.

It really isn't that hard to find 40 wt CF-2 oil.  Around here Mills Fleet Farm has a house brand made by one of the big oil guys right on the shelf.  If I had a 2 stroke I would run that before 15W40.

Mine used to smoke to beat all and leak a lot of oil.  With the right stuff mine slowed both leaks and smoke.

As a matter of fact, Detroit Diesel recommends sae50 weight in their 149 series used in hot mining operations.  If you have a block heater, 50 weight wouldn't be bad for very hot weather. Good Luck, TomC

A matter of fact DD recommends 50w for any 2 stroke with ambient temps over 100F or water temp at 200F
