Where can I find the serial # on my 6V92TA?

Dear Friends,

Tomorrow, good Lord willing and the creek don't rize, we plan on going to the local DMV. Can somebody tell me please where I can find the serial number on my 6V92TA Silver Series?

It's usually stamped on the block just under the exhaust ports on the rear right side of the block looking at the engine from the rear.  Two lines of numbers and letters, the top is the engine type, the bottom is the engine number.  Very near where the air box vent is usually located.

Look at the left side from the front (oil cooler side) just under the head at the very front should have like Brian said should have 2 rows of number  like   6VF  xxxxxxx  8067-xxxx

On mine - when looking at the engine - it is just behind the waterpump on the left - like the other guys have said.

I had to do a bit of cleaning to find it there (oil etc covered it up).

With the age of your bus you may have to look in both locations - both on the oil cooler side, later engines at the upper front of the block, early engines (around 1980 for sure) at the back of the block between and under the air box side covers.  You bus may have the original 1980 engine, or it may have gotten a newer block at some point.  That link is good, it's the same info as found in the DD manuals.

About all the sliver engines are stamped at the front the greens where at the back fwiw

 Does the dmv in Mexico require the serial number of the motor? Why? Just curious.

Same thing i was thinking... after all, motor might be changed next week... Course on my 49 chevy, title was issued to the motor that i took out 40 yrs ago... maybe someday i should go to the dmv and have it changed to the body number on the door post...

Some states here require the engine number I heard CA has a law the engine if changed they assign a new number only hear say on my part

The same thing on my 1952 Jaguar.  They, the DMV used the engine number that is stamped on the cylinder head; so when I put on a different cylinder head my numbers don't match.  Good thing I still have the old cylinder head.

My bus left the factory with an 8V71N engine. This was replaced in 2003 with the 6V92TA.

Yes, they do. I have the title to the bus, plus the title to the engine, since it is not the original one.

On the title deed of the engine, it says my serial # is:

First line: 06RF007156
Second line: 8067 7BR3

The people working at the local DMV are not the friendliest, and gave me a real hassle when we tried to register our skoolie, so I want to be prepared and know where all the serial #'s are to be found.

Its a good thing we don't have to title engines here, or i would be in real trouble. I have at least 75 i am saving right now...and in the street rods, my buddy and i will change an engine or rebuild a tranny just cause the thing got dirty so. The last time i Changed engine in my 49 chevy (6 months ago) cause it was starting funny. then i discovered the ign switch was bad.... however that didnt matter.. wanted to add another 200 hp and built a turbo 350 with extra clutches, etc in it and wanted to see how that was gonna work...hasn't blown up yet, but i'm trying...
