Can a new world tranny be modif-died for straight manual operation using a manual gear selector lever without using ANY...or few electronics?  Kinda like a manual but without any clutch.  Could the lockup function also be made only analog using only a switch?  The coach would have an older mechanical Big Cam Cummins engine.  The world wonders.  HB of CJ (old coot)  :)

They will work with a manual engine but the transmission has to have the electronics, even the shift towers some use instead of the pad are electronic

good luck

Hello:    The direct answer to your question is no. The transmission needs the computer to monitor and control the transmission.
If you choose to use the transmission with a non computerized engine you will need to add a TPS ( throttle position sensor ) and probably but not always have the transmission computer reprogrammed .  That would be determined by where the transmission came from.
The earlier b400r transmissions came with TPS sensors.  I believe but am not 100% certain that Allision had transmission computers installed slightly ahead of the heavy engine manufacturers  computer engines so a TPS was the solution.
If you acquire a transmisison the best way is to get everything required including all wiring harnesses and shifter boxes etc.
My opinioin is to buy somethig ie a transit bus or truck or motorhome with the equipment installed and running..THen you can transfer the equipment you need  and make it work..
FWIW and probably more than you wanted to know

Old Coot, A new Gen 4 will run without a TPS. It will default to a set shift patern, I know thats where I am at now. You will need an electronic shift pad and J1939 wire to tie to the TCM and shifter. The TCM for Gen 4 are cheaper 500.00 max, some can be found for 100.00 plus.  Good luck.

FWIW the electronic shift towers last longer than the pads and are about the same in price,I like the tower better JMW
