Advise needed on MC6 drive hub

Hi all, I just got all our stuff together to go camping for the fourth. On my trip, I lost my drivers on the right side going down the highway (what a scare) on the bright side, the wheels never touched any of the siding on the bus and the tag kept the bus from dragging the pavement. I got a 700.00 tow bill to get it down the road to a friends parking lot. My question is; My bus has a adapter plate to go from the large bolt pattern to the standard truck pattern. The bolts holding the adapter plate to the hub sheared off. Of course that screwed up the plate and the hub. Does anybody know if I can go with standard hubs and drums? Does anybody know what type of rear end is in the bus? It looks like a heavy-duty Rockwell to me. But I'm not real sure. My plan is to try and stay away from the adapter plate (I never liked those even on cars) and stick with standard wheels.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks to my S&S I'm still on my trip. I must say it's not the same

I have my hub, drum and adapter with me in hopes of finding something along the way. I took some pics of the parts I have with me and tried to post them here with the iPhone and no luck. I can say the drum looks to be about 3" deeper than a truck drum and the hub is about 1" thicker at the flange. I'll keep trying to post pics, maybe I'll find someone with a computer.

I would measure the existing drive axle's housing. The current 23,000lb axle has a 5.25" x 4.61" square outside housing. If your axle also is the same housing, it would be relatively easy to replace the whole axle. And now they make wide based axles so your tires would be at the 102" width like the truck. While the most popular axle is the 23,000lb, Meritor (old Rockwell) has a 30,000lb single axle with a 5.5" x 5.5" square housing that is available in wide track with rear end ratios from 2.93-7.17. You can use a standard truck axle-just have to rotate it 180 degrees and have new oil supply and drain ports drilled with a new vent port. Good Luck, TomC

Tom, that is good to know, I was wondering if that was possible to do. I'm still hoping to be able to just go hubs and drums, but the whole rear end will probably be cheaper used.

I don't think it went 40 years.
It sounds like at some time shop-built adapters were made to change from a large circle "Euro" type wheel to more common US type. Anyway, it sounds like the adapter's design is somehow inadequate.

probably true not at all familiar with what the 6 came with. prob one of those better ideas.That turned out to be not so good. would like to know the differance from bud type wheels? Did it come with the wheels without centers? Trying to get another learning experience in today. Bob Ps After visiting other board I found out this is unique to 100 buses only so I learned my lesson for the day and Gary has his solution as how to proceed. Hope he post it here.
