We have a 6v92ta.  The question is, there is a little squall on start up that goes away pretty quick.  We can't tell where it is coming from.  The suspects are the water pump and the blower.  The turbo appears to be really new as where the blower isn't so much.  How hard is it to check the bearings in the blower and how hard is it to rebuild it?  The engine itself looks like new when you pull the valve covers.

Also could be a belt.  Fire the engine up and rub the belt with a bar of soap (if you can get to it safely - otherwise, spray it with a light coat of WD40).  Then fire up the engine and listen for the noise.

Be sure you have someone back in the back to listen for the noise.

You should be able to buy a mechanics stethoscope pretty cheap.  It has a long needle like head on it that you can move around to the blower, alternator and perhaps the  water pump.  Indeed, try every rotating device to see if you can find anything that does not sound "normal".

I would not think that it is the WP as they usually send you a message by having weeping through the weep hole first.

Be very careful when you do your testing.  Lots of things that could make you day less than ideal :o

Not the power steering pump. It has howled for years.  This seems to be coming from the upper rear of the engine.  But sound travels.  Had a a little whine in our pickup we couldn't find under the hood,  turned out it was the rear end traveling up the drive shaft.
