Today the Temp out side around 20 started the D5 up and warmed her up. no starting aid used. After about 10 mins of warming up started to move across a field when the exhaust started to smoke and smoke was coming out the front through the radiator. I lifted the access cover and the eng. had a lot of oil on it and there was oil coming out the exhaust pipe. Loader up and took her to the shop. I thought what could this be. All I could come up with is the turbo. So I removed, on the intake side clean, on the side that put the air to the eng. some oil and on the exhaust side a lot of oil. the oil on the eng was dripping out of the muffler, It is above the eng. I checked the exhaust manifold and it was clean. I removed the oil filter. the oil was real black but did not have any signs of fuel. I removed the dip stick and it had oil all the way up and was very black. wiped it off and rechecked. oil was clean, only has about 15hrs since service. And the level was was normal. What do you think, am I on the right track. and would the cold weather start have something with the blower seals going. Oh I ck the shaft and fins, I could not notice any play, maybe I just cough it in time. So far the only place I can find a turbo is cat. Pricey. It is a 2000 but they say to new for a rebuilt.

Do you have a part number for the turbo or OR number?    Do you have a 3306 in the D5?  How is your oil drain?   How is your air cleaner.   Are you pulling oil thru the intake?

Zero good advice about turdo drain and air cleaner.  could push oil past the sealing rings if return was clogged ;I experienced it once years ago and had forgotten.

Zero : I check again and the drain is open, also I took the air cleaner all apart and there is no obstructions and the cleaner is pretty clean. There is no oil from the cleaner to the turbo. There is no oil in the exhaust manifold. the oil is in the turbo and the pipe going to the muffler and in the muffler and in the crossover pipe to the intake manifold. Luvrbus, I called Turo Re-Source and talked to Tom the owner. I just sent it ups to him. he will ck it out and will be able to tell if it is for sure the turbo, he said from what I described it sounded so. If it is the turbo he can rebuild. Thanks, this board is great. Bill.
