I'm looking for information on where I can get a windshield for a 84 MCI Crusader. The local shop here is wanting 795 for windshield and just under 400 to put it in. I feel there has to be a lower price out there somewhere ???

I have heard many times that MCI actually has a good price on windshields and gaskets.

Also check with the local charter companies that run MCI's they may have some old stock left or can add one for your bus next time they order a crate of them. (most fair size charter companies by them by the crate and get special pricing!)
Usually they will sell them at about $100-$200 (for an MC9) + about the same to install.

Fred,

I'm not sure what part of the country you're in but C&J coach in Minneapolis has windshields for $150. Two things I would recommend are don't do it yourself in the winter and don't do it yourself in the summer  ;D ;D

Without the special tool you need to do it and unless it's really hot out it is just a stress factory waiting for the windshield you just purchased to crack, which will immediately void any warranty you may have, whereas if  you bring it into a shop and they break it they have to replace it not you.

Best 150-200 bucks you'll ever spend.

There are some things better left to guys who do this for a living

Why is it that so many members refuse to give there location on their profile???? You don't have to give your street address but a general location on your profile along with a bus make and model would go along way when you ask for help. This is NOT intended for any one person or persons but as a reminder that listing these things do help when others are trying to help you.. Don't ya'll agree???

Hi yo silver

YES!  I second what Yacht said.  Not to hijack this thread, but when an interesting question comes up regarding an MCI, the first thing I do is look to see if the owner is anywhere nearby.  Drives me nutz when there is not even a clue.  Yacht, please send me a personal note re. the windshield place in central VA.  That's one item on my wish list, and I'm near Roanoke.

It's raining cats n dogs tonight, and I'm sure my windshield is leaking!

If you're not already aware, Barn Owl w/ Wheezy Bus is in your Roanoke neighborhood.

It also "frustrates" me when another busnut requests something w/ no location or contact info - but folk will never change.  I've seen this for over 10 years on the various bus boards. . .

Fred -

Bryce has a great suggestion - talk to a local charter company.  Matter of fact, buy the shop foreman lunch, cultivate that relationship, it might come in handy down the road, so to speak.

$1200 for an MC-9 windshield installed is outrageously high. . . but then again, maybe they quoted you that figure because they didn't want the work.  I do that with potential customers sometimes, saves a lot of headache later on.

RJ,
One other thought on that price is it may be a retail glass company that normally deals mostly with insurance companies that quoted that and they are used to "getting whatever they want out of the insurance company."
(I have run across that a bunch. But have had good luck working with the local operators on fair pricing)

Abbott Bus Lines aka Abbott Trailways in Roanoke had windshields for MC-9's just a few months ago as well as other parts for MCI's. They installed mine. They also have a full service bus garage with a pit and do great work. You can call John Abbott @ 1-800-433-1111 for pricing.
