I ended up in much the same position Robert!!! I made a mistake several years ago buying a smoker and now I'm always the early bird doing the cooking!!!! Now it doesn't seem to matter if we spend Thanksgiving at our house or somewhere else. "Are you doing the turkey?" How about that for talent? Weld on a manure spreader one day.... cook Thanksgiving dinner the next!!!! :D
Seven Heaven.... I pray a lot every time I head down the road!!

Scott, just be happy you are wanted/needed.  The one time I tried to cook a turkey we had peanut butter sandwiches for dinner.   And the one welding project I did, Dallas was so ashamed of it he got rid of it before any one else could see it  :)

I hope everyone had a great day.  We spent the time with family and the best part was they did all the cooking! It was the first time we had had both of our sons and their family's under one roof in a long time.  We truly had a blessed day.

The Day After, Creative Endeavors:  Here is the take away as Dr. Phil would put it:  "Even as bad as it gets, you can always find someone who has it worse than you.  All you have to do in some cases is just look around."  This week I saw some poor guy pushing his stolen or borrowed grocery cart full of junk (his treasure) down a sidewalk in Albuquerque New Mexico.  I can only imagine what kind of Thanksgiving feast he was going to sit down to.  Bottom Line:  Be thankful for what you have and remember the good things in life this week.

One of my favorite Thanksgiving stories happened more than twenty years ago.  In the afternoon, shortly before dinner was to be served, my wife asked me to get some last minute item from the grocery store.

While there, I witnessed a young man, perhaps mid twenties with his five or six year old son in tow.  He was checking out with a frozen turkey and lots of thanksgiving "stuff".

I never talked to them, but in my mind imagined a divorced guy who has the kid for the holiday and is going to make Thanksgiving dinner.  I sure hope it worked out for them.
