Looking for a new insurance company, I'm getting fed up with the continuous rate increases from state farm, I'm on a six month schedule where my payments are automatically taken from my bank account and I never have any idea just what they will be until a couple of days before the payment is taken, for example I have 3 vehicles insured with just the minimum coverage mandated by state law, one I had suspended over the winter cause we don't use that jeep in the winter so my costs for the truck and other jeep were $80.75 a month and remained somewhat consistant for the winter, on april 3rd I reinstated that insurance on the suspended jeep, that opened the flood gates, they immediately raised my rate to 125, then 2 weeks later to 131, I then recieved a notice of a rate increase to 138, and now to $144.90 due on may 5th, all that activity since april 3rd seems kinda excessive to me, I'm going to find another company so I'm wondering what you guys use and like, I have Progressive for the bus cause state farm claims they don't insure buses.  I've been with state farm for 30 years but my loyalty has to be with my wallet now.  I've never in my life had a ticket or an accident, I've never even filed a claim.

Cody,

the wife and I use progressive for both the bus and our jeep. We spend 1200 a year for full coverage on both and a "fulltimers" package. I don't know about additional vehicles b I know they gve discounts for every vehicle we add. I'll dig around today and get the full details if needed. Our deductable is 250.

Cody,

I grew up probably like you where Mom and Dad always had the same insurance company.

I went that route for awhile.

When my rates where going up almost every year with Allstate, I finally hit a price point where it just ticked me off  and the age of the internet really made it easy to do some research.

When it comes to insurance companies, I have no loyalty to them.

I am trading risk for cash.  I shop every year for a better deal, sometimes I find it, sometimes I stick with them.

Currently I use Progressive for the Bus and Farm Bureau for the rest.

Cody, if you are ex military, USAA is great.  Good prices, service and rebates every year.

USBUSIN was our 1960 PD4104 for 16 years (150,000 miles)
USTRUCKIN was our 2001 Freightliner Truck Conversion for 19 years (135,000 miles)
We are busless and truckless after 35 years of traveling

Ditto Cody, Progressive for the bus and the Silverado, Harley. Don't have the #'s but mamma does (her dept  ;D)and can elaborate on the policy better than I could. Those seem to be expensive price hike's, tell your agent Adios if they won't work with you. I think that you should be able to get coverage just for the time you will be using the bus only. good luck. V

The way this figures out I will be paying state farm 1738 a year for the 97 dodge truck, 93 jeep and a 99 jeep and thats just for the state minimum liability, not full coverage or anything like that plus the 300 a year for the bus with progressive, I just feel thats way too much concidering I've never filed a claim, have never had an accident or any tickets ever.

I also use State Farm   Fully comp $500 for the MCI 9 $500 for the 4104 I am selling , $1000. Scion, and liability only on My 1993 F-150 with 301,000 miles $720, $900 for the House.

Cody,

Just thought of this after replying.

I know you had mentioned awhile back about dealing with the hospital and making them payments.

And I also know almost all insurance companies are using the FICO score to determine risk.

Anyway they filed something under your credit report and thats driving these increases?

Just a thought!

Cliff, my credit score hasn't been affected by the hospital at all so far, I've got a huge bill but have been not only making the payments but have been paying additional, if I fall behind in the payments I would imagine it would affect me but so far my score has been good, it actually improved a bit, I'm thinking it's just greed on the part of state farm, the agent even told me they don't insure bus conversions at all and I've since found out that they do so I don't trust anything my agent says anymore.

Cody,

I have left a few unrelated companies recently with my business.

It makes me laugh that after I am gone, they will offer me a discount to come back that was more than what they could have given me to stay in the first place.

They have forgotten to how to treat and reward loyalty to there existing customers.

Zeroclearance

I just called Progressive..   I have had them for over 10 years, on multiple cars and the bus.

I just received a $180.00 increase for the next 6 months.   They said that this was due to the loses in Washington.   I asked what loses, they said to theft and comprehensive risk.    People must be burning there S &S's to the ground???

I asked if they are going to jack it up again, the agent said that they have kept there rates down while other companies have increased theres.   I mentioned USAA, and the agent said that USAA is brokering out RV and bus insurance to Progressive???

luvrbus

Funny how insurance co's work Zero last year I was changing from Progressive and checking around I found that AAA was 180 bucks a year cheaper than Progressive then the agent told me it would be placed with Progressive go figure

good luck
