Air Intake Louvers?

I purchased 4 air intake louvers that are directional, common sense say's to mount them along the side with the intake's will scoop the air coming along the side blades faced forward.  Sometimes common sense isn't what it seems...................long pause.............I need some feed back on wisdom to tell me whether this will work or why I shouldn't.....!   These intakes are for the 8V92TA, there are pockets designed in the duct work to catch moisture and other non-desireable objects from entering the system.   Any inputs as why I shouldn't?........................as always thanks!

   On our boilers we used to put the air louvers on backwards so the air had to change direction quickly. The moisture and other debris couldn't make the turn so the air was cleaner when it passed through...Cable

The stock louvers on a 4104 are pointed down on both sides. The one I have put on the back to help get hot air out are pointed down also. Also added a stainless mesh on the top of the engine door. It is open to the outside no louvers.

Are these for engine intake air or the engine compartment?  What size are the openings?  Jack

On a 4104 they are intake on each side just behind the back windows.  about 8 to 10 inches square. On the drivers side it is also the radiator fill.

It's highly unlikely the air flow along the side of the bus is laminar, flowing smoothly and attached to the side.  It's far more likely to be chaotic, tumbling and turning and going in all directions.  So there would be no particular benefit to attaching the louvres in any particular direction.  Air may flow in to the bus, air may flow out of the bus through them, although at the rear while there is probably positive pressure who knows if it's higher or lower than what's inside the compartment...  I would put them on facing down, to keep the rain out better, frankly.  If you want to pull air into a compartment, i would use a NACA duct and make sure the place the air is going is low pressure.

We are near Augusta, GA.  Temp was 90 last few days, but back into 70s this coming weekend.  Hope to see ya'll at the Cove.  Jack

Jack, the opening is 14" X 12" and this is for the engine air intake!  With these stainless louvers I have two options on the intake forward or to the rear........the engine is a 8V92TA.  I'm in the process of cutting the holes now........the decision is louver directional  blade to the front or rear....I knew I should have taken a picture........lol........!

Based on our first bus (4106) and the 4104, I would point the louvers down. That is how the louvers were on both those models thaqt had horizontal louvers. There must have been a reason.  Jack

My choice for air intake would be to the front. If air is not laminar and such along the side of the bus and there will be no advantage (which there probably will not be) to having them pointed forwards then there is obviously no advantage to having them pointed rearward either.
