right were the center rail that goes between the too front windows right were that brace meet the dash area it looks kinda bubbled up a bit, almost were the door opener is, is this a real bad thing a bad thing or nothing at all, should I tear off the vinal covering and dig into it or just wish it away

Dont look under the side panels cause you will find like my MCI 9 lots of rust.

I have the same thing.  It's from leaking windshield seals that were left too long.  My bus, from Arizona, has basically no other rust that I have been able to find, so while it's not great, it doesn't guarantee the rest of the bus is badly rusted.  I am personally ignoring mine, at least for now.

The dash rust is very common in these buses. Windshields leak and condense and it all collects at the juncture.

If this is the first rust you've found on your bus, you haven't been looking very hard.  :D

You probably shouldn't go pounding on the front of the bus below the windshields, either, because the MC8 was pre-stainless in the front end framing and it's guaranteed that will be rusted out.

Welcome to the reality of old buses.

What Craig said.  Here are a couple photos of the front of our MC-8 after we removed the skin.  Jack

My 8 was from the south west and I had to replace all the tube frame below the windshieds as well as having the dash rust. The old insulation is like a sponge and just holds the water in there. The replacement pieces from MCI are stainless.

My '8' has it there too and I'd bet they all do though I don't think it's too horrible...yet (fingers crossed). In either case it does need to be addressed but I'm just trying to buy time while I work on other projects.
I'll probably address it when I try to install my R&M dash and when that time comes I'll probably do something similar to Craig's project he outlined though I'll probably leave the crank to open and close the door unless I really have to get rid of it. Call me crazy but I like 'em and so does the family.  I suspect though that it'll interfere with my plans for the dash and maybe even my R&M without modifications.

thanks for the replys guys, thats the only place i found rust, right were the window center piller is the rest of the dash and in the spare tire area is rust free, all the storage bays look rust free.

I did find a small bit of rust on the frame in the tag well were the rustproofing has worn or fallen off, just surface rust no pitting, but thats about it, the bus has been in fla for atleast the last 20yrs so that might be why it doesnt have much rust, but tomm im gonna go on rust patrol and look it over real good.

I did find out some good news lastnight tho, I found out the bus had a total out of bus rebuild of the 8v71n motor 32,000 miles ago and it was done in orlando at a place called jerrys or gerrys bus company, and the rv dealer down in my town did a 134 a/c change over 2 yrs ago,

has anyone ever herd of this jerrys or gerrys bus company in orlando.

Yes, it will interfere with the R&M dash if you go that route. BTDT  Jack
