Hi everyone I am the new owner of mci grayhound bus number 2148 of the 1976 vintage mc-8, I guess I broke the no1 rule but I bought it from a church, it does have a rebuilt 8v71n in it with less then 6k miles on her,4 spd auto trasnny, got all the paperwork of what has been done to her for the last 7yrs or so, all the work was done at one of our better rv dealers here in our town, she was a graydog the first part of her life and then sold to a tour company then sold to a prep school, then 7yrs ago sold to the daycare at the church were I bought it, I feel very lucky that the ac system was converted to 134a so thats one thing I dont have to worry about, she has good rubber on her, and she rides pretty good( I had a 50mi run to get it to my home today), one thing I wanted to ask you all is I took it to the weigh scales today and she weighed in at 26,825lbs does that sound about right, also what is a good tire pressure to run in the tires shes got 22.5s, Im sure ill have a million questions in the next yr or so while im converting her

That is what my 8 weighed when I first drove it across the scales.

Congratulations and Good Luck

on my ride home today it ran at about 160temp, oil pres was at 55psi most of the time and the air pressure would cut out at 125psi and regain when it hit around 90psi

Don't trust the temp gauge in the dash. They aren't generally even close. You should have a temp gauge coming off each individual head located in the rear of the coach that will give better readings. Also your bus should have an over temperature system that will shut it down if it gets to hot ( a sensor on each head). If it shuts down while you are not in a good spot to stop you can over ride the shutoff by pressing the start button and holding it down until you can reach a better place to stop or it cools down. The starter will not engage if it has fuel pressure. That is if the factory stuff is still right. just some things I learned along the way.

thanks for the info about the override, I have one temp ga at the rear of the coach on the motor on the driver side, I found that info also in the maint manual that I have, if anyone in here needs the maint manual or the operators manual just give me a shout at reelnative@earthlink.net and ill try to send it to you, or send you a link to it, a really nice guy on the net gave me a link to his site were I could download them, they are for a mc-9 but from what I can tell there about the same unit as a mc-8.the maint man is 500 plus pages and the operators man is about 100 plus pages so they are kinda big downloads, but there the org manuals

I've never heard of that rule before. Whats the thinking behind it?? Are most ex-church buses bad???
