There was a piece on the local news here the other day about how the recent very cold weather had done the damage to the roads equivalent to five 'normal' winters, and how the Authorities didn't have the money or manpower to do all the necessary repairs.

I also think it's kind of silly to assume that it's 'just' a matter of digging the road out beneath low bridges, and that somehow the Authorities are idiots for not doing so. There could be all sorts of very good reasons why it couldn't be done even if the money and desire was there - two that spring to mind are creating a flooding hazard and undermining the foundations of the bridge.

I once stumbled across a web site that listed or at least tried to keep a list of various roads with low overpasses. I bookmarked it but it's on my other machine.
Does anyone know the one I mean?

Didn't one unfortunate soul on here knock his sat dome off a few years ago?

Brian & Jeremy - I can not comment on other situations - but I have reviewed the video of the underpass in question - and for the fee of $1 I will design and supervise the constuction of an approved underpass for less than $250K for the underpass in question if the DOT will cover the BS road closure, flag men, detour, bond, and insurance expenses - And I will do so w/o causing stormwater issues - FWIW

That's a generous offer. I think the people you need to make contact with initially are:

Durham County Government General Services Department

The General Services Department has the responsibility of ensuring that all County facilities and properties are maintained and operated in a safe and proper manner. This department is responsible for providing all building and ground maintenance for County owned and operated buildings

Hey now, don't try to ruin John's only entertainment.

Props on trying to help out, and stepping up rather than complaining about it.
