Hi Folks,

It was this week last year that we lost one our own. Moderator, Richard Bowyer. "DrivingMissLazy"

We miss you Richard!!

Richard Neil Bowyer, 76, of Spencer, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008.
   
He was the son of the late Fay and Adena McConnell Bowyer of Spencer. He graduated Spencer High School in 1949, and was a member of the National Honor Society, high school fire department, National Thespians, Band and was also Advertising Manager of the Rupicola staff. He was the creator of the successful Atlas ShorPower product line, and one of the best electrical and mechanical engineers. He had received numerous awards and patents for his contributions to the marine and computer industry. He had a passion for creating things. He loved restoring antique and classic cars. His biggest passion was traveling, which he did often with his wife, Janet. He served four years in the Air Force as an Airman 1st Class, and was Honorably Discharged in June 1953. He received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Japan Occupational Medal, Good Service Medal and was part of the 3201st Boat Squadron. He was also a veteran and Shriner.

He is survived by his wife, Janet; one son, Royce Bowyer of Riverside, CA; two daughters, Shawna Prado of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Linda Casner of Spencer; two sisters, Betty Jo Kollar of New Philadelphia, OH and June Haught of Spencer; one brother, Jim Bowyer of Charleston, WV; two grandchildren, Hilary Goss and Travis Casner of Spencer; three great-grandchildren, Zachary, Riley and Mackenzie Goss, also of Spencer; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Bowyer. As per his wishes, he was cremated and no memorial or services were held.

Hard to believe that a year has already gone by....

And we are still here working on these darn buses...

But, it keeps us out of trouble...and as Richards byline said:

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body. But rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, a good Riesling in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming:  WOO HOO, what a ride

I have been thinking about this all week.  Richard is really missed here.  I hope his family still comes here and checks on occasion.  I would like them to know that we still think of him and them and miss his input to the board.

I arrived just after he left. I have read a lot of his posts, in the archives, and miss his sound advice.

He sounded like quite the guy. I would have loved to meet him!

Thanks for posting this Nick,  I too think of Richard, especially when working on the board.  I miss his input on things for sure & remember him during those times.

Maybe if one of you guys have his wife's address you could send her a note or card and let her know we are all thinking of him and her?  I am sure she is aware of the date and would appreciate the gesture.

Yes Richard is missed, but He is in a better place and looking down on us to make sure everyone spells correctly!
