Opinions on chinese pure sine inverters, please

I was browsing Ebay and looked for 24 volt pure sine inverters.  there popped up a couple of pages of brand new Chinese and Tiwanese units, up to 5000 watts.  At prices about a third of what I thought such things cost.  I wonder if anyone has tried one, and has any feedback on how it's working for you?  I was thinking in the 2000 to 3000 watt range, primary target is running one rooftop AC unit on the road, I'd power it from the bus alternator.

Any thoughts?

The Xantrex model RS and MS are made in China also fwiw that is why I still have my stacked Traces from the dark ages

bevans6...I am not being political here.
Go to any store...it does not matter which one.  Look at anything made by the chinese.
Ask yourself if you want that shoddiness replicated in your electrical item that powers your high dollar items.
I am not saying I don't buy chinese.  I am saying that if it is a safety item...or a higher dollar item...I don't buy chinese.
Imagine buying chinese made jack stands...and relying on the mostly pot metal materials in them with your life!

If it not labeled with a nationally recognized safety label (UL, ESA, etc.) I would not consider it.  Even if it is, those authorities only look at safety, not performance.

That said, the Chinese are about where Japan was about 40 years ago and South Korea 10 years ago, and coming on strong.

I was able to get a 2800 watt pure sine wave Magnum inverter/charger from RV Surplus for 800, it lists at far more and seems to be a good one, just a thought about what I got.

I hear what people are saying and  I'm actually very sceptical, but I know, from other parts of my experience, that Pac-Rim companies can build about any level of quality, it depends totally on the design specs and the quality control.  Of which I know nothing when it comes to these inverters, obviously.  I also know, from years ago, that IBM sold a lot of computers, back when computers actually cost something and you had a build a big building  to put them in, based on FUD - fear, uncertainty and doubt.  I think it approaches certainty that vendors of the high priced stuff are defending their prices and value with a health helping of FUD.  The question is how much?

Question to Luvrbus on the stacked Traces.  they are almost certainly MSW - how do you find them running your motors, as in AC compressor and fan motors?

bevans6, the only thing they won't run in the bus of ours is the induction cook top and the microwave takes a little longer.
Never have I had a problem with my ac or other electrical items in the bus but I would like to have a pure sine just for the efficiency part of a pure sine but being a 12v system using a 240v cook top I can not find a inverter large enough without stacking and I don't want to go that route with a pure sine setup because I have friend with a 2006 Marathon Prevost with 2 4000w stacked pure sine and he has problems all the time with his

Yeah, I grabbed the hook on one of these........I hate to admit it!  

I bought one that was 24vdc for a deep discount as it was on an auction, not a buy it now.

I have never seen one go cheaper, and I paid too much.  Just over 100.00

The first one they replaced, after a dispute got there attention, but I ate the return shipping.

Didn't live up to there hype or performance claims.

The Chinese can make perfectly acceptable stuff or total junk.  My Xantrex Prosine 3000 was made in China.  I believe the older ones were made in Mexico.  If I removed the Made in China sticker nobody could tell the difference from the older models.  I'm not happy it was made in China, but I didn't realize that when I bought it.

I've seen some of those cheap Chinese inverters and they look like they are worth what you pay for them.  I've never used one and maybe they work just fine.
