Treasures found after the Bus Demo

Well, I guess you could call it Treasure. When we were ripping out the Int. of the 102A3, coins started turning up. Not a lot, mind you, But still enough to get ones hopes up. I am a Treasure Hunter from way back. I have all the standard Th'ing toys for coin shooting, cache hunting, nugget snipping and placer mining... So when coins start popping up, the hunt is on. I was not going to blog about this because we Th'ing'ers tent to keep our finds close to the hip. But, it made me wonder what other Bus Nuts have found while ripping their buses apart??? We found pens, about 30 of them, pencils, casino advertisements, buttons, photos, notes, a token, a commemorative coin, nuts, bolts, screws, a few coins, a small diamond ear ring and a small gold nose ring. The most interesting thing we found was wedged in the front drivers compartment. It is a card with a quarter glued to it and it reads "HELP, Although I cannot leave the accident scene, I must still notify my company as soon as possible. Please use the attached quarter to call my employer at: Then the driver and bus info. followed by, Thank you for your assistance. We didn't find this card until now because we are keeping this small upper locking compartment intact. I will come in handy on the road for maps, bus info... I was prepping it for the end cap when I found the card. See picture on our blog.

When I tore mine apart I stuck all the coins, pens, cards etc in a quart mason jar.

I put them out on a shelf in the barn and have had more than a few interesting conversations over the contents.

I also think back about how far I have come whenever I look at it.

The guys at the recycling place tell me they love to get an old washer or dryer....cha ching $$$$$......

In one bus we tore down (an entertainer coach) we found a receipt for 12 containers of deodorant.  I wasn't sure if they requested the purchase or if  it was bought as a hint.

In our bus I found $1.36 in change and since we bought the bus for $1.00 we ended up making money on that deal.

Our bus is rather old, so there were only some pottery shards and coins with the Caesar's image.  I thought they would be worthless, but a coke machine accepted them.

I drove it from Colorado to Canada and crossed the border.

When I was taking stuff out I found a floor safe built thru the floor in a closet.

I asked Brian what the combination was for the safe he said what safe.

I have yet to cut the safe open  waiting for him to visit Canada to we can split the proceeds.

To think  after they inspected the bus at the border and didn't find the safe that I didn't declare who knows what is inside.

Cut carefully, or you may end up splitting a bunch of charred paper that looks like it used to be $100 bills . . . 

You should be able to get it open without cutting, then have a working safe with a known combination.

I haven't found anything strange in my bus but it was already converted whrn we bought it. The things that keep popping up all over in the weirdest places are:
rivet heads, bolts, nuts, and washers, sanding discs etc.

Our bus air was stuck on for a few days once so whenever we were driving it was really cold.

When we finally found the problem it turned out that an unused washer had welded itself to one of the main a/c leads in the main rear junction box and shorted the air conditioning into the on position.

I did find the remnants of an old cruise control rig as I was trying to get to the bottom of an airleak in the spare compartment. It took a day to figure what the heck it was.

I found about a pound of bird nest in my intake, and the dead bird to go with it!  That's a warning to anyone who buys a bus that sat outside for any real length of time without proper sealing!  It's also a warning to MCI owners that may leave their radiator grills off for an extended period of time!

I've still got the original destination sign unit, but I'm taking it out, because it doesn't have the one that I'm putting on:

"HONOLULU"

. . .and on the back, since it's a TMC, it's going to have a sign saying "It Came From Roswell" and the letters "TMC" in a flying-saucer outline.  On the inside of the door will be "Thank you for fling Air Blaznee" (an obscure but appropriate reference).

When I gutted out Eagle I found all kinds of goodies. One interesting find was a 12v tester, the kind with the light,  buried inbetween the floor and a sheet of foam insulation under the old bed, and it worked too! When I replaced the entry flooring the other day I found a nickel, 1986 vintage. Now I can add that to the fuel bank!

I think I would try a locksmth before I destroyed the safe by cutting it.  Jack

Does anyone know if there was a standard lock box or floor safe in long haul tour buses? M&C
