Power Tech 7KW Gen St help

I am having heating/shut down problems with my Power Tech 7KW. I have back flused the radiator. but still problems.The fan is mounted between the engine and the radiator. Pulling air across the engine and pushing it thogh the radiator. I was going to add a electic fan on the front of the radiator pulling the air ( helping the original fan ). anyone have the same problems? Also is the fan blowing the right way?

Yes, the air flow is correct. Across the engine and thru the Radiator is correct.  Richard

Make sure you are getting an adequate amount of air into the generator compartment.  Check the tension on your belt, water pump may not be spinning fast enough.  Jack

My 7KW Powertech pulls air in from the front and exhausts it through a duct in the floor.  It sits in it's own enclosure.  Maybe the free standing models are different.

A couple of things.  You stated that you just back flushed the radiator.  Did you "burp" the cooling system so all air pockets are gone?  I know both when I initially installed and then just recently changed the coolant, I had to shut down the engine several times, burp the engine (get the air bubbles out) through the twist valve at the top of the thermostat housing before it finally started to run properly.  If it is running then rather suddenly heat up, you most likely have an air bubble blocking the flow.
If it is a radiator problem, then the temp will build slowly.  If you run the gen with the cabinet doors open, does that help?  If that does, then you have a cooling air supply problem.  If the gen ran correctly before and slowly over many weeks started to overheat with each episode shorter in time to overheat, then you have a clogged radiator.  Let us know more.  Good Luck, TomC

I probably shouldn't be asking this question..but it needs to be asked.  Did you put 100% anti-freeze in the radiator or did you dilute it by at least 50% with water?  It wouldn't be the first time this was done..and no reflection meant as to your knowledge or intelligence.
Water changes the cooling properties drastically since pure Anti-Freeze has no cooling propertries in and of iteslf.

PowerTech uses a couple different configurations. I have a bus at my
place that I installed a 10 KW PowerTech in that came with a sound box by
PowerTech. That generator pulls the air through the radiator and expels
it through the floor. My personal PowerTach (without a sound box)has
the engine sitting upright with the radiator installed in front of the
engine. It pulls the air over the engine and expels it through the
radiator. They also make another version with the engine laid on its
side. I do not know what the air flow is on this one.
The first thing I would check is the belt tension. Is this a recent
problem? Have you changed anything just prior to this problem
occuring?. Are you getting enough air into the generator compartment?
We just finished remoting the radiator on our PowerTech. The
generator is in the old AC condenser compartment and the radiator is
now in the rear of the former spare tire compartment with an electric
fan. Biggest problem with this modification was getting all the air out
of the system. Hope this helps, Jack
