Hi yo silver

I've done the search, but unless I have overlooked it, I can't find a thread where the part number for a starter for my 8V71 starter is mentioned.  Anyone have a manual that can give me the #?  I'm looking at picking up a spare starter from a rebuilder aquaintance so I can carry it with me.  Thanks!

Starter configuration depends on the engine configuration. The engine configuration depends on the engine application.

This means that different buses take different starter part numbers. How about listing the application(model and year or VIN)? That probably would help.

For what it's worth.

Hi yo silver

Oh, OK! Thanks Tom.  Now the bell is ringing and the light is on.
It's an 8V71 in an '82 MC9.  Does that help? The best I can tell, the model # on the tag on the side of the starter looks like 114878.  Does that sound right?
Thanks

When my starter went out on my 72 Eagle I took it out and went to the local NAPA store, they had about four of them setting on the floor. That was about 4 years ago and at that time I think I paid about $185.    Prather

Hi, Dennis.

I don't have the information that you are looking for; I figured that someone who has an MCI would probably give you what you need.

You also might think about the lightweight Mitsubishi MT39 that has been mentioned lately.

Dennis, I love our new Mitsubishi starter!!! We have a DD S60 so I'm not saying whether it will work in your application or not. If it does work (we haven't put many miles on it so I can't speak about the reliability of it) for you I would say, go for it!!! The old Delco 42mt was terrible to get out, but this one was a breeze (remember all in context, nothing on a bus is a "breeze) to install.

If you can't find info about whether the starter will work for you, as a last resort you could call MCI tech support. They have always been helpful when we call.

FWIW,

God bless,

John

Yes...by all mean to call MCI support for correct number and ask for Delco number as well so you can later purchase one anywhere.

Caution...Delco make many mounting holes angles for left & right side and V block and I block version using the same electric motor.

Usually by taking in your old starter to match the holes angle and pinion depth dimension and number of teeth.
