How common is it to not have a serial number on a DD8V71?  I have searched all the noted spots on my motor and have not found a single digit.  I have an option to pick up a spare 8v71 for almost nothing but the work.  I was hoping to get some build data on mine through the serial number but there is none to be found.  What do I need to know to see if the option engine will work for me and my MC5B? Thanks

Built from scratch with a new bare block?

I wouldn't put too much stock in the serial number at this point. It tells you how it started life, but once in the hands of crafty re-builders, it can be all re-configured.

Perhaps Brian Evans will chime in, an MC5 owner who re-configured a military engine for bus use?

Happy coaching!

When I worked for DDA, the replacement blocks came without numbers.  So it is not unusual to find no numbers.

MCI is a little different on the rear if the engine didn't come from a MCI it takes a lot of work to change the rear plate, drives and bell housing,I am getting ready to change a industrial 8v71 to the MCI set up and not looking forward to it
