Cost of Rebuilding A DD From The Past

Go to www.govliquidation.com and type in Detroit Diesel in search and look at all the 8v92's for auction. I think these also have jake brakes on them. I have seen a few of these on Ebay too.

I remember buying a new '66 Mustang & paid $2000 and change. My Daddy told me anybody who paid over $2k for a car ought the have his head examined, his tail kicked, and be "put away"  for his own protection & the protection to the public. He later bought a USED Eldorado for over $2K. LOL! I reminded him of what he said.  LOL

I was in Canada on the way to PEI when I dropped a hole in my '68 Diamond Reo, 318 & a 15 speed double over. They towed me 200 miles to Halifax, Nova Scotia,  put Dad & I up in a hotel, replaced 4 holes, with all the other things your have to do, & the entire bill was less than $600.

On the other hand, I bought an MCI conversion for $X. I put another $2X in it. I sold it for 1/10 $X.

Time marches on.......... I just try not to fall too far behind!!

MTU/Detroit Diesel just lowered prices on all two-stroke parts and is looking for all the cores for the reman center. They are going back in the two-stroke business. If your intrested. This from the big wigs at the work boat show.

Don, that "sounds" like good news for all of us.  Does that mean the $4600 Clifford mentioned will now be closer to the $2000 for liners?

Just how many DD 8v92 engines ARE there for sale in Huntsville Alabama?  I imagine some big DD rebuilder outfit will just buy them all for cores?  Or..is is possible there may be a few diamonds among the chinkers?  Dunno.  I do wonder what an example will $sell$ for. HB of CJ (old coot)

Man, I had no idea that just a set of genuine DD liners for an 8V92 cost over $4,000!  No wonder a lot of people just get rid of a bus when the engine blows because they can't afford to fix it.

Buy a set of pistons and liners for the 60 series in your bus from DD lol you can rebuild a 8v92 cheaper than you can a 60 series I just bought a set of new injectors for a 14L series 60 not rebuilt at WW Williams today for $7810.38 with no core charge parts are not cheap for any diesel engine

I have no idea what genuine DD liners would cost for a Series 60 either.  I know I have seen complete third party rebuild kits with liners for the Series 60 pretty cheap, but who knows if they are any good.  I haven't paid attention to manufacturer names as I am not in the market for a rebuild kit.

After market parts liners and pistons for the 8v92 are cheap they cost around 1200 bucks for a set made in other countries  I prefer the DD

Tom, I don't know how far the discounts will go, I was told by the director of sales that Tognum group finialy realized they made a mistake on the two-stroke engines and were going to get the business beak.

Is there anybody in the Huntsvile area that would go over and look at those engines for me.

Let me know I would like to pick up 10 of them.

What are the issues with 3rd party liners?  Do they fail prematurely, or just not fit as nice, or something else altogether?
