Hi all,

tested my coolant sca level in the bus.  Nitrites ok, ph was off the chart.  I have 2 coolant filters I just replaced.  Anti-freeze protection -35 degrees

With the ph that high, do I treat it, or drain, flush, and refill?

Will the coolant treatment filters correct the ph, or not.  Is there a treatment for ph?

Thanks

Heat accelerates chemical action.  In this case that would be the disolving of your radiator.  Maybe it is OK tolet it sit in that condition for awhile but I sure wouldn't run it like that.  Neutralizing PH is kid stuff.  Call a rad shop for the appropriate product.  And let us know.

What kind of kit did you use to test the coolant?

Thanks,

John

John,

I used the test strips from Wix filters.  The nitrate level is fine, but ph was 11, and said immediate attention required.

What's normal pH for a healthy cooling system?  I thought around 9 or 10 was desired.  Combustion products are very acid.  Could pH be lower for a Two-stroke Detroit?  Dunno.  Great Board!  :) :) :)

Dick, 7 pH is neutral most antifreeze is 10.5 (8-9 is good for 2 strokes) you may have to much antifreeze to lower it  anytime you go to anything over a 50/50 mix the pH is going to be high the only way I could lower mine was with distilled water DD recommends this for the 60s  good luck
