my buddy that is in the truck parts biz told me that they have to stock the crap from china as some customers wont spend the money on the quality parts. unfortunatly they throw out or replace about half of what the get in. he said some stuff is so bad that they just throw it in the dumpster before it ever makes it to the shelf.

Air drier up to snuff, replace the desiccant and the purge valve and let's see what happens next. Doesn't matter, really, as these are things that should be done anyway, it is time and money well spent.

Regarding the air starvation suggestion from that "mechanic"...

phooey!  If plumbing the air compressor intake off the engine intake was wrong, it wouldn't have been set up that way, pretty much every truck and coach left the factory that way, and they continue to this day.

Save yourself some screwing around, some cash and another filter to stock and maintain and leave that alone, it isn't what is wrong with your coach.

You just need to do some long overdue maintenance.

Old buses that sit around eventually don't work right. These components were never intended to sit around, they need to be worked or they dry out, corrode and stick.

Where would the commercial mechanic get the experience in dealing with stuff that sits around like a bus conversion? A commercial venture that left aging equipment sitting around for months and years at a time wouldn't be in business for long... we're the only ones doing this, nobody who gets paid is doing it, so there is little to no "experience" in dealing with these matters that is verifiable or not just a lucky parts changing shot in the dark.

Good mechanics are few and far between. They know how to say, "I don't know"

Mechanics who make stuff up, pretending to know what they are talking about, can be found everywhere.

happy coaching!
