Well, I purchased one of the Lowe's wall mount shop vacs that Cliff told us about. After looking over all the possible places to mount it, we decided on the back wall of our closet. The hose has a threaded fitting that attaches to the canister, so easier to just mount the vac in the closet. The hose just is long enough to reach all of bus interior except the step well.
After testing hose reach to all points, we decided this is where we will install it. BUT, I had never finished the inside of the closet with the cedar. So 5 minutes to install the wall bracket for the vac, AFTER 3 hours installing cedar. I still have probably an hour to install an electrical outlet in the closet for the vac to plug in to.

i bought a wet/dry mini vac from sears for about $25.  moves around from the bus to the van, all the bays, all the steps, generator cord hole which has lots of steel wool droppings, etc.

moves all around, cheap, great suction.  the only problem is that fran won't use it, so guess who does?

i like mine better.  installation was only 30 seconds to usability.

Tom,
Now that it is installed, it can quickly be removed for use else where by pulling the plug, grabbing the handle in the top and lifting it out of the wall bracket.  Jack

My cental vac (a wet/vac), is installed in a bay, with a outlet to plug the hose into about mid bus, and a switch.  Easy to reach the entire bus.  Works really well. I store the hose under the bed.

Where to put the darn hose is a problem for me.  A Knut on this board had a superb idea that i will share.  He made his built in vac line a little oversize.  His hose slips inside the vac pipe and his access door closes over it.  Now that trips my trigger.  I hope he will post pictures and share part numbers of components.

My heart burn with these central vacs is that the carpet device usually has only a accessory on the end.  I want the brushes AND the beater bar.  Sand and stuff comes up easier with the beater bar and you need those brushes for the lint and such.  I had a "head" with the bars and all from the Goodwill" that I bought for $5 but it went missing.  Next time.

John,
I don't think this unit would work well with carpet.  The accessories do not include a carpet attachment. Since the only carpet in our bus is a small section on either side of the bed, we didn't even think about that when we purchsed this unit. Fortuanely, we are very rarely walking on this carpet with our shoes on.
Since this unit is sold as a wall mount "Shop Vac", I do not know if a carpet tool is avaialable.  The accessories that come with it are a small round brush, a crevice tool, a small floor tool, and a larger wet floor tool. Also includes a 20' hose with a short rigid section attached, and 2 wand extensions.  Jack

JohnEd, we have a 120V Dirt Devit vacuum in our S&S that flat out cleans the carpet AND...did I say AND...the bare floors.
It has the beater bar and brush you want and storss out of the way.  It has a 25 foot cord so if you plug it in the middle of the bus you can get to the whole bus.
It has the little attachments for corners when needed.
I had not used it much before last week...I did a good cleaning on the carpet and floors and was amazed at what it got up.
If you stop it in the middle of the floor for a second you almost have to pry it up to get it to move again...that's how much power it has!

Hope that helps!

Jack,

Let us know how it works for you. I, too, bought one one after reading Cliff's posting last week. It'll be awhile before I get it in.
I hope it don't turn out like the last one. I bought a similar wall mount vac a few years ago for the bus, but for some reason, it ended up being used in the house!  ::)

After finishing the cedar closet lining and wiring yesterday, I tried the vac.  I can report that it works great on our wood floors and ceramic tile floors. Our bus has wood flooring with small grooves on the edges and ends of the boards. The vac cleaned all the floor in a snap. Wth such a small amount of carpet that rarely gets walked on with shoes, I cannot really give a good evaluation of how it does on carpet. It does also do a good job of removing cat hair from our upholstery.
Overall, we are quite pleased with it, but as I said, we do not have much carpet.  Jack

Jack Hart Jr,

I had a Dirt Devil when I owned a condo in SCal.  It worked well and I had no complaints.  My carpet was "white" and I did not remove my shoes.  I wet vac ed that bottom floor carpet every couple months and the carpet being spendy good stuff, always came sparkley clean.  Dragging that wet vac carpet cleaner home lost all the novelty of the experience about half way through the first one.  I am with you on that DD product, though.

The most performance bang I ever got was from an Electrolux.  I took it apart to find out why...it was that strong.  It had a two or three stage centrifugal blower in there and the air flowed thru the bag before it passed thru the blower so the blower stayed clean.  I don't think DD has a model like that but Hoover, Electrolux, Eureka, Mercedes Benz, BMW and Sears make them but they are spendy.  Nice thing is they become family "airlooms" and you look forward to your inheritance.  The one passed down to me was 50 years old.  The new ones are a couple grand or more and have the exact same motor....I was told.

The only reason I ever wanted a "wet capability" for my vac was to be able to clean my carpets without dragging the carpet cleaner home and to scrub the kitchen without using a mop.  That attachment you have with the built in squeegee takes care of the kitchen in a flash.  I wanted it built in so I didn't have to lug it thru the coach to empty it.  I also envision a water feed to the hose, maybe just the sink, that I can use to flush the inside of the hose and tank.  Dreams, right?

I needed the beater bar because I rarely take off my shoes unless there is a serious mud problem or I have stepped in doggy doo doo.  And, no.  I don't wear my shoes to bed no matter how the grammar breaks on that sentence.  Admittedly, my carpets get dirtier faster than yours ever will.  The day after I did the carpet cleaner trick I would "slow vac" my first floor and I would get serious amts of sand so the bar does work at deeper cleaning.
