Inexpensive rear view camera

While looking around on Ebay, I came across the very inexpensive (and very small) rear view camera. As usual, I have no financial or legal interest in this company. I have not used this product and I am not endorsing it.  If you are pregnant or may become pregnant, use this product at your own risk.  YMMV.  Jack

That looks like the camera I used.  I think the seller is the same as well.

The sell a couple of different focal angles.  I used a real wide one for the rear and a narrower one for the sides.  I had two of the cameras fail after about a year.  It is possible that I killed them, as some welding slag fell on the wire and may have shorted the wires out (no power at the time, but I did power them up later).

They were not terribly impressive in terms of clarity and quality of display, but what would you expect for the price?  Not good at all at night.  I decided not to buy more, and am looking at some other options.

I went with a rear camera that was documented here:  http://www.busconversions.com/bbs/index.php?topic=7295.msg78340#msg78340.  I am not impressed with this camera.  It has a great view angle, and quality is not too bad, but the display seems to be dark and it is not good at night.

Still looking for a better option.

Jim, i don't remember, did i show you my camera and monitor when you were with us in Yuma?  wasn't cheap but i am real happy with it.......sometimes you just gotta bite the bullet and pay more to get something decent. ;)

Ed, I think we discussed your system, but I can't remember the details.  I have certainly learned that going cheap does not always work (at least with cameras).

As some of you know, I have picked up the SilverLeaf line (will focus mostly on the VMSpc product).  However, they have a neat stand-alone camera switching system that can be connected with your blinkers so that the system switches to the side camera for the direction for your turn.  I am hoping to get some cameras from them, since they have done their homework.

Many thanks, Jack. Jim Shepard gave me a lead on something similar two years ago at Arcadia...but somehow I lost the contact.  Hmmm....might it be my age? ;)

I WILL buy at least 2 of these this time....and will ask the wife to put on away.  That ought to insure that future Archaeologists will know that we knew a little of something......

Libby seemed very intersted in the rear view camera but she won't tell me whos back end she is going to focus on, I'm thinking I'll check it out anyway lol. Expiring minds want to know.
