Nashville stopover

Marilyn & I want to plan a trip for this fall that will include stops in Berea, KY, where she went to school, possibly Branson, MO, Nashville, Asheville, NC, and Bristol, TN.  I searched, but didn't see what I needed.  Anyone have suggestions regarding any stopovers (in addition to Wal-Mart) where we can avoid avoid paying the full campground fee every night?  Any new busnut friends to meet?
