Oh great! Another opening for lawsuits for the bus manufacture failing to install seat belts, which as of now is still not required of "Motor Coaches" to have. But then that's gonna be the next thing they're gonna go after and require those of us who operate commercial coaches to go back and retrofit our coaches with them! Well here goes another expensive project that will be required if we are to be able to stay in business!  :-\  BK   :(

(Anyone got some extra lag bolts & duct tape I can have? LOL!)

How did they know what the driver thought?

They probably talked to the other 5+ drivers who have made the same mistake in the same place.  None of them were in vehicles big enough to blow through the concrete barrier and off the far side of the overpass, so it wasn't a big enough deal for the DOT to do anything about.  Took a bunch of dead bodies for them to decide there might be a problem...

Why is there no such thing as an accident anymore? Must there always be blame and law suits? I understand the need to improve things so future accidents do not happen. Some times it's just more productive to move on.

Take for example the Concorde crash in 2000. Did you know that the French are now wanting to put two Continental Airline employees on trial for manslaughter because a strip of metal fell off their DC-10 just before the Corcorde takeoff. It was thrown into the bottom of the Concordes wing ripping open a fuel cell. Yeah like pieces have never fallen off the Concorde before. Half the rudder has come off five times before they fixed that. And never mind the French broke their golden rule of running a sweeper down the runway just before every Concorde take off. The bloody thing had a 200 mph take off speed.
