Has anyone checked out this new battery technology, its a foam microcell technology that is suppose to give longer battery life and lighten up the weight.

Here is the link to their site. http://www.fireflyenergy.com/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1

Several of us have been following this development quite closely.  It shows promise for the future.

For the immediate present, however, it's not particularly useful:

  • AFAIK, they are behind schedule and the first product is not yet shipping.
  • The only size initially available will be BCI gp 31.
  • The initial product is a starting battery ("hybrid" or "marine" type), rather than traction or true deep cycle.

Assuming it works, long-term, as planned, this product will be a good way to save some weight.  In our case, with nearly 1,200 lbs of batteries, we could save a good 400-500 lbs, if they release a product with deep-cycle capability in the 8D footprint.

No real data yet on extending the cycle life.

FWIW.
