We arrived home last Tuesday from our 10 week spring trip. Everything was great except the price of fuel. We went a total of 2006 miles in the bus and about 1700 miles in the Grand Cherokee (an emerency trip from NC to IL to see Paula's ailing father). Every time we stopped for fuel we paid a higher price. 1st fill up in Arcadia on 3/1 was 3.619, last fill up in Arcadia yesterday was 4.459. We used a total of 361.9 gallons of fuel which cost $1510.47.
Bus ran great with no problems.  Generator compartment exhaust fan failed Tuesday about 2 hours from home. Our fire detection system from Jim Shepard alarmed when the generator compartment reached 130 degress and we shut down the generator with no additional damage.
When we made the emerency trip Il in the Grand Cherokee, we found we could not walk out of a restaurant for less than $25.00 per meal (for 2) and motels were close to $100 per night, so we still prefer our bus and sleeping in our own bed. We found that a good balamce is to park the bus and do day trips in the area in the Grand Cherokee, then move on to another area.  We had some great visits with busnuts in FL, GA, SC, NC, & VA.  Jack

Sounds like a fun time. Fuel prices are a pain, but still the best way to see the country I think. Sounds like Jim's system did good for you to stop further damage. Hope Paula's father is doing better.

Mmm! Lets see, 10 weeks is 70 day (or nights) at $100 per night is ..... and your own bed.  Diesel doesn't look so bad. Yes I know RV lots cost money too but those can be avoided in several ways.

Hi Jack,

Our friends just did 10 days at disney. Flew with their 2 kids and spent $12,000... Air fares, Hotel rooms, Rental car, Restraunts, and Park Fees.

Not to mention that they treat like Cattle when they make you wait in line for everything....

I would have to say you and Paula did real good in 10 weeks.

Jack & Paula....Good report about cost comparison, Paula's ailing father trip and home was trouble free, safe and able to go visiting many places. Thank goodness that Jim's alarm work when your least expected. Who knows it could have spoiled the trip via fire or whatever.

How is the farm cats...Garfield, Tiger and Princess doing?

Did cell phone works reasonably well through out the trip?

Thanks for sharing your report.

Hi yo silver

Jack and Paula,
Congrats on a safe trip.  Sorry I couldn't join you in N.C. as planned.  Problem solved; installed spin-on filter.  Hoping to leave Thurs. for a week in VA Beach.  It will be our maiden cruise if you don't count the trip home.

Garfield & Princess are doing great . Momma Cat has claimed your bus as her home. Tiger developed conjestivehart failure and had to be put down.
Our cell phones worked everwhere except some spots up on the Blueridge Parkway.  Jack

Sounds like you had a great time, we've been enjoying a pile of sawdust here at BK's, life is good, we're heading to Peoria later today after I finish a screen porch for BK's mom, I've been working on that for a few days now, today we'll be adjusting the double screen doors and putting the automatic closers on it and folding up shop lol. Last week I built an oak couch base with drawers for mike hills Flx, he seemed to like the dovetailed drawers, the week before that I finished the work in his interior on a MCI conversion. We're slowly winding our way north, I'm already marking off the calender for when we can get back to Florida, in the fall we"re heading out earlier so I can do a couple of conversions in chatanooga and some more work here at BK's for his mom. Can't wait for Bussing 2009 lol.
