We spent a few days at the EG Simmons county park in ruskin, just a couple of miles south of tampa, really nice and only 10 bucks a nite, 12 bucks if your under 55, evvery site is waterfront, some on canals, some on the bay, great beach with both tampa and st petes skylines. Max stay is 2 weeks tho then you have to find another park for 2 weeks.

Alafia State Park is very nice but a little remote.  Medard County Park was cheap but watch for homeless folks. Lithia Springs Park was good too, but tight on big rigs.  Ft. Desoto in St. Pete is super, but hard to get in.  Good luck!!!

You could stay at my sister's place, but don't tell her I said so!!! hehehehehe!

A curmudgeon's reputation for malevolence is undeserved. They're neither warped nor evil at heart. They don't hate mankind, just mankind's absurdities. They're just as sensitive and soft-hearted as the next guy, but they hide their vulnerability beneath a crust of misanthropy.

Cody and I had a great weekend at EG Simmons park.  It's right on Tampa Bay. You can park at waters edge.   You could also park in my front yard for 72 hours in Gulfport area of St. Petersburg.  My bus is pretty much filling up the backyard.... :o

You may wish to look into Hillsbrough River State Park, on 301 just 9 miles North of Tampa. They have some nice sites real close to the river..  Not sure how much they charge, but you can find it online.

Let me know, if I can help.

I'm 30 miles west of Tampa right off I-4 about 5 miles north just of rte. 98 if your looking to get out of the city! Nice country setting and if you have a toad, you can come and go as you please! I'm also about 30 miles East of Disney. We actually live in kATHLEEN if your mapping it but we have a Lakeland Address!

Back porch pickin almost every Thursday evening along with a small (depending on head count) cookout!

Try Fort Desota like Borderdude said. A very nice park if you can get in, if not a nice place to spend the day.   Tom Y

Hey Jim: 30 miles west of Tampa sounds like a nice quiet serene place to me. Check it out for us ... we all may have some interest. However, you may have the oil riggers for neighborxs and they would possibly give you a free parking space. Let us know, huh?

Thanks very much for the info and offers, I truly appreciate it.  Fort Desoto is booked forever, still checking the others.  I'm going to look around the Tampa area and north for a house. I've been fulltime for about 8 years and a little tired of it!!   Jim

If your going to look around North Tampa, then Hillsborough River State Park would work really well.  What attraction is North Tampa for you?  I just bought small house, in the Gulfport area of St. Pete.  The backyard is just big enough to park my bus in.....

I would look just outside Tampa like here in Lakeland. A lot of bus nuts over here and close to everything!

You should have bought a house with a bigger yard ;D  I kinda liked the area when last there, would like to look around maybe as far as Holiday. Thanks Ace but lakeland is just a bit too far for me, maybe stop by for a bit, will have to see how time works out.  Did the mango tree survive?
