Campground membership

I long time ago, we bought a campground membership with a Coast to Coast affiliation.  We got decent use out of it, but dropped it when we no longer needed it.  I was thinking of buying another.  They can be very reasonable second hand.  Has anyone had recent experience with such memberships?

I use www.passportamerica.com a 50% off travel club. If you use this for 4 to 5 days it will pay for itself. Not for everyone but has worked well for me.

We've had a membership since the early 80's and when our resort closed last year it left us without a home park. We were told about Shiloh resorts in Louisiana we contacted them and the membership was $99.00 a year, I see they have a special on at $69 a year. I'm not sure what the C/C membership is but I've always got very courteous service from Shiloh. http://www.shilohrvresorts.com/

   We have 2 memberships. K&M has 8 parks in Washington state. Thousand Trails has 50 or so nationwide.
    The smaller K&M was great when we were working. Their "resorts" are close to home for weekends and vacations.
    Now we are getting ready to retire and hit the road, so the bigger TT will pay off. Both have connections with Coast to Coast, RPI, and other camping organizations.
    The original payout seemed extreme but the kids all use it and the grand kids are starting to camp there now too. Financially it is a wash. Their dues or other campgrounds fees seem to be even. The fact that we always have a place to go, and the kids can join TT without the initial payout gives the whole family access to reasonable, clean, secure campgrounds when ever we get the urge to go together or separately. ..  Cable

Be careful of Transfur Fees...

A friend of our family purchaced a membership second hand and they were suprized with a $750 transfur fee to Thousand Trails.

   I agree with Nick.
   We were recently thinking of selling the smaller K&M membership, so I asked what the fees were going to be. The initial membership price was $5999 (we paid 1/3 of that). The fees came out to be about 5% of the initial cost, or $300, unless the buyer had been on their sales tour, then it is 15% or $900.  So, yes, watch out for transfer fees if you buy somebody else's contract. You may be able to get them to pay or split the fees if they are hungry.
    But keep in mind that you don't necessarily have to pay the full price if you buy a new contract. Nearly everything in the RV industry is suffering, so you may be able to bring the cost into a more comfortable area. It worked for us 15 years ago it should work today.

We initially paid $1000.00 for the C/C membership and when we moved to the Shiloh Park the transfer fee was $99 and the yearly dues were $99 it included RPI, Thousand trails, Adventure Outdoor Resorts and a one year membership in Happy Camper a 50% off camping club. I've always had excellent camping at C/C, nice facilities and friendly people. We on occasion have stayed in there park model trailers when we hit the road without the RV. I haven't visited them all so there could be some horror stories out there. I know some C/C parks charge a lot more than a grand, so buyer beware. WM is cheaper but some nights a camp fire is nice and a pool and a sauna and to lay on the grass and ...................

Been a member of Green Mountain in Lenoir, NC for close to 30 years. We are staying at Camp Hatteras park on the NC outerbanks next month for $10.00 a night. Their rates for the same site is $80.00 a night so we get our money back for yearly dues.
