Check out these MCIs. I have never seen one with tour windows before. Is it a model 7 with caps or is it a model 8? Also the second MCI-7, look where the radiator is located, and it looks like it has two drive axles. Is this one of those special built cargo units?

BarnOwl, one of the Worlds Fairs, I think it was NY had some buses with those type windows.  I do not recall the make.  However way back in my mind I think it was MCI's and Greyhound operated them.  Some others will be more help.
Nice bus though!

There are still some running around DC and other high touest attraction areas. They use them for touring the big cities mostly at night so tourist can supposedly see all the lights!

The first coach, with the "skyview" windows, is an MC-8.  The skyviews were an option on MC-7s and 8s, and were purchased mostly by companies with Gray Line Tours affiliations.  With age, they are naturally prone to leaks. . . and parts are harder to come by, too.

The second coach is, as others have mentioned, an MC-7 Combo.  These were a project for Greyhound, carried out by Blitz Body in Chicago, where they took the axles out of a Scenicruiser and stuffed them under a 7, along with the large side-mounted radiator, an HT-740 Allison plus an MC-8 dashboard.  The wheelbase is shorter (as is the third baggage bin), and only the front axle is a driver, the rear is just a tag, exactly the same as the Scenics.  While in revenue service, they seated 10 up front, then a bulkhead to separate the passengers from the package express.  A large cargo door was also cut into the curb side of the coach in the rear, above the tag axle.

Being ex-Hounds, they've naturally had the wheels run off them, but the 7 was always considered to be one of the most rugged coaches ever built. . . even if the styling is a little funky, IMHO.

I wonder if this Combo Conversion is the one that used to belong to the publisher of National Bus Trader, an industry trade mag. . .

the sky view windows were an option on the MC-5 thru MC-9, I have seen some A3's with them but don;t know if they were a retrofit.

The Worlds Fair mentioned was the NY Worlds fair....Originally they all were supposed to be MC-5's with the sky view windows...however MCI did not have th capacity to make as many as were desired.....so the lions share of them were GM SDM's

Corgi has a nice model of it

jackhartjr

Doug, I am just waking up...what is an GM SDM?
Thanks

At Brewster Greyline out of Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper, all our buses up to the MC8's had sky-view windows in the 1970'. My converted MCI Courier 96 is one of them. Yes they can leak if neglected. I have removable covers on them inside and out to keep the heat out. They are really nice on a cool day. You still have your privacy as only your head is visible from outside when standing.

Did anyone else notice the size of the electric motors driving the radiator fans? Looked like 2 were there. Holy cow! I'd like to know the amp draw!  :o

Nice Combo.
I have a 73 MC 7 combo.  My radiator fan is driven with a belt off the center pully and then through a 90 degree gearbox.  I think his price is a little high.  If it isn't, I have a nice 7 for sale ;D

FWIW, Easters in Bassett, Va has an MC8 or 9 on their lot with skyview windows.  First one I'd seen.
Looks like a major leak potential on an old bus.
