Well, reluctantly, Tubby was pointed north after an afternoon shopping and eating in Mexico. The highlight of my shopping was a sack full of fresh avocados. They were so good, i wish i had got twice as many. The TX grapefruit were and still are, sweet enough to eat like an orange. And we are already regretting not buying way more watermelons. And i was feeling like i had missed the target on the Texas barbque. The places we ate at were good, but they just did not ring any bells for me. And then by chance i pulled into a small place on the east side of 59 just south of Houston. RING RING RING,,, bells went off like crazy! Now, this was the barbque i had been looking for. This was food so dang good it almost made me cry. The name of the place is Hinzes. They smoke their stuff with pecan. If you get there, try the carrott sald, it is way better than i could believe. And the potato casserole was awesome also. But the ribs - bowhatelyouwhat, them right there, thems some good eatin ribs! I kid you not - my list of great rib places is now shortened to a list of one! If you ever find yourself close to Wharton Tx, this place is a must to stop at. Hinzes is the only reason i can think of to drive through Houston again, but i will do it time and time again to eat there. We only made it to Marshall and had to stop for the night. Last night we spent in Lamar MO and sat out one long loud windy and rainy night! Now I am sitting an hour north of Des Moines and it is bed time. Tubby has run well, but i think i will be ordering a water pump when i get home. Barrs is doing its job for the most part now. Big time thanks to Clifford, Sonny and Mike again, and to everyone else who offered help with the compressor failure.   PS - i really want a longer list of good barbque rib places, so if you have any favorites, please let me know.

Loverbus, you aren't talking about Bonnies Steakhose in Weatherford TX are you?
Sounded like it till you got to the bone in part, I don't think her's has the bone.  I know it covers the plate and then some, they bring the baked potato on another plate!

Jack, I was talking about Mrs.Goodsons place at Tomball north of Houston but Bonnies is a good place I love the steak fingers there about a foot long cut from a real steak ( no sams or costco stuff there) and one order will last me about 3 days.Jack I am sorry about not sending your hoses have them boxed up and forgot to call UPS to pick it up but I will take care of it when I get back

If you guys will send me the addresses for these places, i will compile a list of them. I know i won't travel without it. Thanks.

If anybody is in the Abilene TX area give me a call. We have some great places to eat steak, ribs and about anything else your heart desires. Some of the best I have eaten.....To date at least....

JohnZ, Glad you had a good trip. Hope to see you down the road somewhere,

If it's Texas and it's ribs, you gotta mean BEEF ribs!  And you haven't even mentioned the Holy Grail of Texas B-B-Q in Lockhart....Kreutz's and Black's (same family but they won't admit it) one has the original location, one the original name.  Bring your own pocket knife to cut the meat!

A curmudgeon's reputation for malevolence is undeserved. They're neither warped nor evil at heart. They don't hate mankind, just mankind's absurdities. They're just as sensitive and soft-hearted as the next guy, but they hide their vulnerability beneath a crust of misanthropy.
