Air Tank Pressure (Rise)

Near the end of a day trip today, I noticed my front air tank pressure was higher than normal.
I have an 82 Eagle Model 10.  My dash gauges show my front and rear tank pressure.  Normal seems to run 115-125 lbs of pressure.  Today, my front tank was reading 170-180, whatever the last line maker indicates.   After gently tapping the gauge a few times with no change.  I pulled over and did a manual release on the front tank to make sure the gauge was working, and it was.   I pulled the air back down to about 120 and took off down the road.  Immediately my pressure rose again to the high 170-180 range.  My rear tank stayed in its normal range, if anything, just a bit low.

I would appreciate any thoughts on the issue before I tear into things, or tear something up that I shouldn't.   Everything was working fine up to today.   Air dryer on board has been working fine, as I sit here and type, I do not recall it discharging any air while parked with the high tank pressure,  no large fundemental air leaks that I know of at this time.   

For those who Eagles, what is my safe air pressure limit on the tanks and lines.

You have a gauge problem the compressor pressures up to 120-125 so one tank couldn't have 120 and the other 170 and your relief valves are set on 150 lbs for safety reasons  fwiw

Buy a new gauge then see what the pressure it.  Good Luck, TomC

Seperate gauges? Swap gauges befor buying new gauge.

Or temporary switch gauge's lines to see if it still read high at the same dial indicator. It it is....bad gauge.

Thanks, that was the information I needed.   Just wanted to make sure, I couldn't be at 180 lbs of pressure.  That was part of my worry.  I'll go back to the gauge and get the problem fixed.

These are the exact symptoms of a failed compressor governor.

My guess is that there is a limiting pressure regulatorfor the rear tank pressure but not the front. Why this would be so I have no idea!!

This is just a guess because I know nothing about Eagle air systems.

However, if changing to another gage doesn't work you might try changing the governor since they are only about $20.

You might try switching the lines to the two gages to see if the rear then reads high and the front normal. If so, then you know it is the gage.
