Hi,

Is it just me or is everyone having problems with the chat room?   I am also curious how many people don't use the chat room because of the repeated booting and how slow it seems to run if you get more than a couple of people in it?   I imagine if we voice our concerns the "Powers That Be"    would take a look at it.

I was in chat room yesterday and all seemed fine.  Phil Lyons  just rebooted the entire chat system for us and I'm not aware of the problems you are

talking about.  When is this happening?

I would like feedback!!  I just finished another full reinstallation / upgrade of the chat software about a week ago.  We're always looking for feedback.  I've just finished posting to the moderators as well asking for feedback.

We are not "married" to the current chat room software, and if it is not satisfactory, we will look for other alternatives.  We have done that in the past & will do so again if necessary.   We do have requirements that it integrate seamlessly with the BBS software, and have full security, etc., etc. Personally, I don't want to spend time re-installing, upgrading, etc., if it isn't making things better.   Hopefully, I'll be visiting a lot more in the chat room to get first-hand experience (work permitting of course  )

If you do post issues w/ the chat room, please also post whether this happened very recently ( last week or so ) or whether it was prior to that timeframe.

Fantastic!

It has been slim in there the past day or two  so I will keep an eye on it and let you know how it behaves.  Previously it has been a bear.  If you get more than two people (and sometimes with just two) it bogs down and was very irritating.  It has also had the habit of random boots.  You will be typing away and suddenly you are taken to the log in screen again.  It would also not log people out.  I would check the room and come back five hours later and see that it said I was still logged in. I think there are several people who stopped coming in because of the problems.

Phil, thanks for keeping an eye on this.  I understand it is a database problem and I know those are a royal pain to fix.  Those of us who use the chat room regularly appreciate the work you do.  I hope more people will use it now that you have worked your magic.

For those who have not used the chat room, please stop in.  Your best bet to find folks is in the late afternoon into the evening although there are a few early morning birds.

I quit using because of the problems and you posted you still had a few glitches but never said that it was working again so haven't tryed it anymore.

Thanks Larry - good point.

The remaining glitch is now that I need to re-configure the chat button.

I need feedback from chat room citizens to let me know whether the problems are fixed, or whether we need to look at an alternative chat room software solution.  I've performed a complete uninstall, then upgraded the software.  We are on a mostly dedicated server.  So, if it still ain't workin', it may be time to move on to a different chat room setup.

I'll get that going once I get my "day job" tasks taken care of...
