Am I too young to own my bus?

Sometimes I idly pass time by browsing through the web looking at rv parks in places I might like to visit sometime. Over and over though I see that I'm too young!!
I haven't been too young for much of anything for years although I do still occasionally get carded for beer. Many of these parks are 55 and over, no offense but I'm too young to sit and knit or play bingo....seriously, no offense, it was a joke.  I like bingo!

How many of these places are there out there conspiring to keep us young rowdy kids out? Are they really afraid that I might be a bad influence and keep everyone up past 8:00pm or blast my acid rock music?
Oh well, by the time I really get on the road to most of these places I will be 55, that's 8 physical years or 25 emotional for those who wonder.

I've often wondered what some of the older generation at RV parks do with their time, particularly down south in the winter.  I've got 20 years before I could even get into a 55+ park.

My bus was built to only see an RV park/campground on the rarest of occasions.  It doesn't even have a city water connection.  It does have a shorepower connection primarily for hooking up at home.  I use the inverter or generator when away from home.

I still do a fair amount of tent camping, but most of it as Boy Scout camps that have nice spots back in the woods for each troop.

Older is relative - I'm not old but I guess I have to admit I am older.  Some of us older folks like to hang out with younger folks cuz it helps keep us young.  But you guys are right - some parks are just too old for us too.  We went to Kino Bay probably 10 years ago now & they had a potluck in the park.  No problem with that - potlucks can be fun.  But you should have seen the parade of wobblies that showed up for supper.  I swear the average age of that crowd was north of 70 and that average included the four of us in our 40's in our group.  These guys were OLD.  I'm talking walkers, oxygen, alzheimers, the whole 9 yards.  Now I have to credit them with having the balls to get out at that age but we decided we wouldn't be going back to Kino any time in the near future.

Guys, if your lucky in this life you may live long enough to enjoy the life style these folks live and cherish.I must be getting old I have never heard of the older generation referred to as "wobblies"

Florida has many "over 55" RV PARKS. These are usually full of people that live there all winter (or longer). Florida also has many CAMPGROUNDS. These are usually open to all ages, and are usually more fun to stay at.  Jack

Most of the 'over 55' parks are classed as resorts where you rent space by the season. The majority are in the South but there are also some in the North for full timers who want a 'home base' or a semi permanent summer location for weekends and holidays.

Some of the residents are working people but the majority are retired, some couch potatoes waiting to die and some more active than most working people.

My experience was that the couch potatoes were mostly people who had worked in large companies and just did what they were told. With nobody to tell them what to do, they were lost. Professional people, small business owners and self employed had millions of things that they had been wanting to do and didn't have the time.

For my first winter in a resort park, I put some projects under the bed before I left and they were still under the bed when I sold the RV. I met so many people with so many new interests, I didn't have time for my projects.

The 55 rule is to keep the socio- economic underclass from moving in and setting up residence. It is unenforceable there have been cases where someone under 55 inherits there parents units and moves in. The rule for not being able to rent your unit out is for the same purpose.

I don't think that there is any problem with the people in you age group it is just the kids that many bring along that don't respect other people that gets to be the problem. Jerry

Yeah, I rather figured that it's really because they don't want a passle of screaming kids running all around which I agree with. I love kids and may even buy a couple some day but there are times when I'd like to not have strange kids tearing up my property.

Sort of like the neighbor kid 3 doors down who likes to knock his golf balls towards my house and I fine them sailing between my Mercedes and Lincoln and he refuses to stop.

I suspect there are a good number of us under 40 types here on the board.  One of the main reasons I wanted a bus was for the safety of my family, including my 17month old son.  I just turned 37.  We need under 50 campgrounds/resorts with 24hr daycare so us adults can play!

In the years up to 50 you already burned out yourself and your tolerance for others...

The days get longer and energy to do stuff fades....and the Body fails...

Age is a state of mind! My beloved Granddaddy always sai ya only as young as ya feel! And he was usually found playing with the youngest of us all the way down to the great grand younguns regularly! So if ya old enough to cough up the $ for it ya old enough to own it! But for petes sake ENJOY IT WHILE YA YOUNG ENOUGH TOO! LOL!

I'm old and wobbly but don't plant me yet lol, at 56 I am still young enough to enjoy life but I've kind of forgotten why lol.  My biggest problem is keeping up with some of the seniors I see, nobody told them that their getting up in years yet and they are running circles around me.  I think it's great that they can be so active but I've seen a few that could be more active but somehow they seem to have convinced themselves that they should stay home and watch tv.  Most of the parks that are 55+ are marked that way and thats ok for the ones that choose to not be around children, personally I enjoy watching kids play and have fun, it keeps me young just seeing them and seeing how much energy they have.  With the many campgrounds we've found we pick and choose where to stay and it works out great for us.  Just a quick drive thru usually tells us if it's the right one. The main thing is to get out there and enjoy your coach, life only lasts so long then it's someone elses turn to have fun.

The first part:  Can you afford to purchase/make payments on the bus?  Can you reach the controls?  If you answer yes then you are not too young.

Am I too young to own a bus? I've given this a modicum of thought and have come to the conclusion that I should have started 40 years ago. Now the fact that my bus is now 50 I guess I should have bought it as a shell and built the interior.

I don't think so....40 years ago I and my wife were raising children and having all those problems young families have. So, probably not.

But looking back over my shoulder I sure do wish I'd started earlier. Cripes! It seems to take me all day to break this rig down for travel and another to set it up again.

We love what we're doing but would happily give 10 years away to some lame brained adolescent who wants to grow older before their time.
