bus windshield

I've got two brand new windshields and gaskets for my 1960 Flx Hi Level. My problem is that no one wants to install them ,or they want 800-1000 dollars to install them. They will not guaranty against breaking glass. Advise is appreciated and needed....

I can't imagine the degree of difficulty involved here but our regular auto glass guy installed both sides of the new windshields in my MC5 for $160.  Took him longer than he expected 'cause he'd never done a bus windshield before but I had new gaskets and lock beads which made life a bit easier for him.

I would bet that they won't guarantee the install because they can't get any replacements if they break one.

Ya gotta remember, the guarantee is only good if they can fix something they screw up.

I called around about my PD4103 windshields and finally found some at Curved Glass for $750 each.

The local glass place refused to even try to install them because they couldn't guarantee the install.

I had my local guy install both sides of a 4106 last year useing the old rubber, $100.00 later, a perfect job. (It didnt evan need a MIT diploma to do).>>>Dan

Yep I don't think you will find anyone that will garauntee against breakage.

I hope it isn;t really DINA glass as it might not fit

I'm amazed that you actually found a new 4103 WS since they are so unique and so few 4103s were made. More than I can say for my 4104 rear window, they are nowhere to be found.

   If your windshields are installed with a rubber gasket that has a lock bead, you good probably do it yourself.  All you need is a lock bead tool ( looks kinda like a flat srcewdriver with a hole in the blade), a couple pieces of oak 1/4" X 1" X 8" long, some dish soap and PATIENCE.  The pieces of oak should have one end ground down(like an oversize flat bladed screwdriver).
   Set the rubber gasket in place on the bus, soap the gasket with dish soap, and set the bottom of the windshield in place. Using the two pieces of oak, SLOWLY work the windshield into the gasket by lifting the gasket lip, and letting the windshield slip into place. TAKE YOUR TIME, DO NOT FOCRE IT. After the windshield is in place, install the locking bead using the lock bead tool.  I have installed several windshileds with no problems after helping a friend install the first one.
   Might check with Luke or a local glass company for the lock bead tool.  Hope this helps, Jack

Using our Flxliners as a basis.....

if these are not OEM Flxible iwndshields and if they cam from DINA in Mexico...expect a 25% chance of correct fit.  Read as 75% of   totally the wrong shape/curve.

That is exactly how one of Luke's mechanics installed my 5C windshield 2 weeks ago, Took about an hour for one side. Very patient, I never asked how long the mechanic had been working on buses, as he was wearing a Hausman jacket.....
