Height control valve rebuild

Has anyone ever rebuilt the height control valves on a 9. I have a leak on the right rear and if I am going to get dirty, I thought I would pull both rears and rebuild them. Any ideas?

I can replace both valves for $125.00

Replace'em. They can be rebuilt, but by the time you spend the time, by the silicone fluid that is used in the things, and get everthing adusted, you may have more in the rebuild.
If for some reason one of the valves fail, the failure could be expensive...especially if it overinflates an airbag (s).

They can be bought for less than $50 bucks each...depending on where they come from.

MCI wants $65.00

I just read an article on the Road King valve made by Crown and they make the valve sold by MCI. They make a big deal about making sure you do not get a counterfeit unit. So, I guess I will be contacting gillig tomorrow and seeing if they have a better price. How about Mohawk?

Ok, I just ordered my height control valves for the 9 from Mohawk. They had the best price and the correct type and model. Saved 33% from MCI prices!!!!

Thanks wish me luck. I decided to change both rear valves as they look to be about the same age and the hassle to clean the "backside" is a major pain in the $%%^$&.

So, hopefully the air leak and leaning will be better once the job is done.

The leaks will be gone if the leveling valves were your problem. A little late to advise, but attaching a hose (should be there anyway) to the exhaust port on the leveling valve and submerging in a bottle of water will show an internal leveling valve leak. If external...well..that speaks for itself.
Where was the air leaking from?

JR, the valves were leaking from around what looks to be the top of the valve where perhaps a diagram has failed. I am waiting for the new vavles and the powerwasher so I can get underneath, powerwash and then replace. I could not purchase just internal parts and new valves at 40.00 seemed pretty reasonable. So as I wait, I am now looking at replacing both wiper valves, (leaky) and then I should have the air system pretty tight. At least until I take it on a ride again!

I will keep you all posted on my progress. I first have to clean off the dirt, oil and years of grime. That should take about 4 hours of good 3,000 psi treatment. Once clean, I will then begin the work of R & R the valves. Should be easy work once I get access and can actually see things.
