Hi

I am at the point of painting the roof of my bus.  A local importer is advertising car paint very cheaply, 1/3 the price of the local brands.  He claims to have imported it from the USA.  The paint is "NAPA Acrylic Lacquer - Martin Senour paints".  Does anyone have any experience with it?

Is it worth using on the roof?

Thanks for any input

He imported from here because most areas will not allow it anymore due to the high VOC's. while easy to work with it is not the most durable and requires lots of maintanence compared to the urathanes availible today. most urathanes will survive for decades with minimal upkeep where as laquers need to be waxed often to protect them from the suns UV rays. personaly painting is a big expense once-you dont want to do it twice. spend the money on a quality urathane paint with UV protectants and enjoy it for years.

I would def go wityh a two part urithane...will last 30 plus years and still look very presentable

Compedgem and Tekebird are right.

I didn't know a lot about paint until I got ready to start painting my coach, I read a lot on the internet and talked to a local body shop owner.

Acrylic lacquer doesn't hold up as well as the urethanes.

Thanks for the advice, I knew I would get the right answer here.

It ain't cheap if you have to do it twice.  I will go for the urethanes.

Acrylic laquer is made for the earlier GM Cars /or spot panel repair. Not only, will it not hold up as well as your urethanes, but requires a good solid base. This finish continues to get very brittle, and will require a lot of buffing afterwards. BUFFING/AND COMPONDING AROUND RIVETS will kill you in time. So;cheap is not goood.Your urethanes are tough and durable!

I just painted my bus last week and all you will need to do just the roof is 2 gallons.  I would spend the extra and get good paint.  Mine cost $125/gal US.
