I bought one on e'bay that was rebuilt by a board member.  I havn't installed it I could take pictures for you if you want to see what the other end looks like. I was thinking I could mount one of those 1 wire alternators and drive it off that side drive. I noticed the water/oil cooler mount covers the plate  where the  tranny drive installs.  Looks like the cooler would need to be moved in my application as they would conflict.

just remove the bolts that hold the cast housing to the trans case and the whole shaft assembly will come right out as a unit. as for a block off plate call an allison dealer. I may have one and will look for it sunday in the parts room and let you know if i find it

As I understand it, not only do you have to take the shaft out, you have to pull the transmission to take the gears out also since the gears just float with the shaft and could jam up inside the case without the shaft holding the gears in place.  Instead of opening a can of worms, just make a cover for the rotating pulley.  Besides-how often is it that you're in the engine compartment when the engine is running?  Good Luck, TomC

true very true also i think i can just remove the pully and leave the shaft there and just build a cover for the shaft ! i have a after market tranny crossmember mount to use this i need to remove the pully so that the braket can bolt up to the bell just in front of the pully

How big is it?

If it's a round (most shafts are) object then cover it with a round object. A piece of pipe maybe. Put ears, or legs, on it to bolt to something close.

A piece of exhaust pipe or a coffee can anything to keep your fingers out of it.

A piece of PVC and whatever adapter you need to affix it with and a cover.

John, the RTS or Nova transit bus used the PTO to drive the A/C compressor belt.
They have a belt guard that you can probably modify real easily.
See if you can locate a used, scrap one.
Might want to try NIMCO in NJ.
If not, just fabricate a square box to cover it.
Good luck.  8)

better than putting a cover on it, just tie a piece of .085 weed eater line around it with about 2" hanging out.

It won't take you long to remember to keep your fingers out of the way once that line slaps you a couple of times.
